Thinking of getting a dog

well living alone has really begun to wear on me so i think when i am well enough i will get myself a dog. What breeds do you all recommend? I am kinda partial to the huskie/hybrid types but i dont know that suburban ny is right for them.

Get a wolf. Or perhaps a doberman that when it barks at people, it shoots bees out of its mouth. Just like the ones Mr. Burns had on the Simpsons.

I have a Chihuahua and it has been the best dog I have ever had. No fuss, no mess and the girls love him.

I don't care for larger dogs.....I live in an apartment.

As far as attacking anyone....it won't happen with this dog, that is why his name is Whimpy. But he will bark if anyone comes near the door and quickly hide if he thinks they will get in.

At least they won't steal him.

boxer,they are great dogs,you have to exercise them for a few hours a day bu stay in apartments and small homes well because they dont like being outside

I like Keeshonds. Very happy dogs, very friendly, they're long haired, which some people don't like, but they're very positive to have in the house. They're "smiling" dogs that are fun to be around.

We have 2 Chihuahua... Smooth coats

When you think of them as skinny, shivering taco bell dogs,
you are thinking of the teacup variety.

The Standard Chihuahua is very smart, easy to housebreak and
Crate train.
They have incredible hearing and will bark to alert you of anything
unusual in the house.
Smooth coat variety is easy to keep clean and shed very little.
The standard breed is sturdy and can even play tug of war with toys.

Ours stay in their small kennels in the foyer for several hours while we are away, and even all day occasionally. No accidents.

The only negative is the tone of the bark, as with other small dogs
it is described as yappy.
But believe me, when they bark, they have heard something not right or you are having company they don't know..

My second choice would be a Jack Russell terrier but they have been overbred thanks to the Frasier TV show

Do u really want a dog? I was living alone too and felt that I needed a dog.

U gotta deal with piss, shit, destroyed furniture, destroyed shoes, stink, fucking fur all over the place, inconviniences when going on trips, extra monthy expenses and other such things.

Dogs are over-rated. I dropped out of vet school when I realized that I was forcing myself to like animals.

But if you've taken all this into consideration and still want a dog, then get a breed whose characteristic traits are more or less in line with your lifestyle. I love pitbulls. They have short fur. Grooming is so easy. Relaxed attitude. And tough.

For suburban NY I would go with a Miniture Bulldog, French Bulldog, Boston Terrier or a pug! With these small dogs you will have a "buddy", pick up chicks and won't be accused of being gay!

Staffordshire Bull Terrier!
They love kids, loves to play, real clown like a bulldog and a couch potato!
Needs alot of attention but not a lot of space!

Great for outdoor activites! Frisbee, running, biking, etc
