Unless you have your heart set on it don't go to Cheyenne there ain't shit there anyway unless you go during Cheyenne Frontier Days. Go up through Ft. Collins and straight up through Laramie. 287 is awesome between Ft Collins and Laramie. When you get past laramie there isn't shit until you hit green river wy just west of rock springs. You'll go up over the bighorns along the way which are pretty cool but windy as shit. After you leave salt lake you'll head down through price ut, not a bad little place has some really cool rec areas just south of it on hwy 10 around the orangeville/huntington area. Moab is a must, try and get out into arches if you have time it's worth a day on it's own. Grand Junction has some great beers especially the palisades brewery. On the way back you'll hit glenwood, vail, and a bunch of other great places.

Also, don't forget to stop at Crestone Junction at the fireworks stand there. There is pretty much nothing else until Rock Springs unless you plan to drill some wells.
You may want to hit Wamsetter up for a taste of the armpit of the oilfield.
If you want to see something, turn at Loveland, Head through Estes Park, Granby, Kremmling, Steamboat Springs, Craig and then take 40 to salt Lake and down.
You're not missing much bypassing Rock Springs, just more oilfield and a strange town laid out along the railroad tracks.

haha, I lived in Rock Springs when I was a kid, my dad was a trucker. We used to go swim in wet suits in the flaming gorge reserviour. I may take that route to SLC though, I just want to hit all the mountains while it's still winter.mountain muscle said:

Dunno, its been a couple years since I drove that pass. There's some scary freakin' turns up there, with no guardrail. Last time I was there, I drove it at night... Talk about nerve-wracking!!

Oh... and the look on the bartenders face when you told him "just one glass"... Yeah, that was priceless. Good times.
I think the funniest part was the fact that I was only drinking wine because they dont sell whiskey at the top of the mountain at Vail...hey, I found out how good it felt to go down the basin buzzed on wine though. That was a great time thoughbeefcake28 said:

I grew up in Wisconsin. We had beer in our baby-bottles. I have yet to meet anyone here that can come close to me when it comes to drinking, but... I'd also like to see you prove me wrong. Either way, it's a good time all around.
last time we went to keystone beefcake was drinking more beer than I drank water/whiskey combined and still made it down the mountain without altercation with the ski patrol, I cant say the same for myself.

We've got two separate clients in Scotland and one in Wales. Being as I am one of two guys who knows how to do downhole tests I get the UK and he gets Australia for now. Might get a chance to go downunder (and fight GD). Then in September I'm supposed to be headed to Chile. Going to be a busy year.
