Get a dog, only to chain him to the a tree with 5 feet of chain for the rest of his life.

And the children in the family don't even play him anymore.

I watched that very situation for more than a year... then kicked the guy's back gate down one night and took his dog to a new home and a new life.

Go and ask them for the dog. If they don't cough him up - free him.

I feel nothing but contempt when I hear a dog barking a night. Why? Cause that means the poor dog is sleeping outside in the grass or in the dirt in a dirty backyard. My dog lives, sleeps, eats, etc... inside and always has. My boss has two medium sized dogs and two cats and they all live/sleep inside. My godmother has two huge great danes who have their own beds.

If someone doesn't plan to treat a dog like a member of the family, then he shouldn't be getting one.

I was very tempted to do this. I saw it while driving through the poor black area today. Not one, but several dogs were like this. Just laying there, the entire area under the tree was worn down to bare dirt from them pacing. Children out riding bicycles and playing in the yard, not even looking their way. Those dogs are silently pleading for death to release them.

Hard to image people treat God's creatures this way.

I felt bad for the door across the street...he is always chained outside all day and most of the nights. One day he got loose and I went to go knock on their door to tell them and the door came after me and jumped at me and snapped in my face. Fuck him he deserves to stay outside now. Maybe it's the owners fault he is like that but still...

The very first time I spent the night with my new girlfriend I was living in a small house on the beach. I'd been on my own for a couple years... and without thinking by habit... when I went to turn out the lights to go to sleep I whistled for my dogs. All three of them came flying into bed... curled up and snuggled in to snooze. I had just realized what I had done when I noticed my girlfriend was flustered or upset. She just squeezed in, grabbed a hunk of pillow and pulled up the covers.

I knew then and there she was my type of woman.

Sounds like an open and shut case of abuse.

My mother raised German Shepards for the Police Department when I was growing up. So, I always had a hot hairy body with bad breath in my bed. (this was before I discovered tricks)

But I honestly can not comprehend people who do this shit. and for dinner time, they just open the back door and throw scraps off their plate out there.

You're speaking metaphorically right?

My family members eat when they're hungry.

They drink when they're thirsty.

They shit without waiting for somebody to let them into the shitting area.

They run around when they feel like it.

They sleep when they're tired.

They get medical attention when they're ill.

They bathe when they're dirty.

They are spoken to nicely.

etc...

I'm speaking literally.

I could never understand this!

Why get a dog if you don't want anything to do with it?

Worse yet is when you go to the store or something and somebody dumped the poor animal. I hate people that do shit like that.

People like cute puppies , but don´t like full grown dogs or lose interest in them when they are not cute anymore. Sad but true.

Exactly! The "newness" wears off.

Our large dog spends the day outside in a huge( 25x20ft) fenced kennel with lots of grass, shade and fresh air while I'm at work. NO CHAIN
Much better than being locked up inside.

When I get home and am outside she runs around the property
following me when I'm doing yardwork.

On the W/E she is out as long as I am, running about.

At night she comes in so she isn't barking at the critters that roam
around outside.

The worst is people with large dogs in apartments...

My family is the same way. A lot of times I will sit on the floor to watch TV when the dog is sleeping on the couch and I don't want to disturb him.

i totally agree, i also don't like people that get one and leave it outside permanently, i have 2 neighbors like this, one who has the one dog "lucky" who they got from the animal shelter, they have had it over a year and no one ever goes outside to play with him, my son pets him sometimes, and they never brush or shave him in the summer. :( the other neighbor has about 4 dogs, all unspayed and neutered, and the poor female has a couple litters a year, i always hear the dogs fighting, and one unlucky dog yelping, i guess when he's the loser of the fight. it makes me very sad, no one ever plays with these dogs either. myself i have 2 cats and a chocolate lab, all inside animals, it can be a pain in the ass with the hair from time to time, but the companionship is worth it. they love me no matter what.
