I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day the state of Alabama, whose governor's lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Beautiful words aren't they? Paints a beautiful picture of a vision that seemed so far away on August 28, 1963. The civil right movement was in full bloom and the message was powerful yet peaceful.

How many time do we hear messages like this from our current so called black leaders?

In the old days, no civil rights leader made excuses for the bad behavior of blacks. No civil rights leader invoked

"400 years of slavery" to exculpate criminals, or claimed that blacks themselves couldn't be racist, or that juvenile delinquents were victims, too. In those days civil rights leaders set down a single standard for all -- regardless of race, color or creed. Their stand had an effect. Malcolm X himself became a convert from separatist to one who accepted all colors. He of course was murdered for this conversion by his own people.

The problems with being black today are not the same as they were in, say, 1958. Today, the biggest problem with being black is that so-called "black leaders such as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Louis Farrakhan.

Many of today's leaders are nothing but snake oil salesmen of gloom. The glass is not only half empty, but poisoned by the white man.

The Martin Luther King intro is a perfect segue to my first culprit.

Jesse Jackson

Jesse Jackson's original claim to fame was that he stood beside MLK as James Earl Ray took his life on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968.

You would figure that greatness would have rubbed off onto Jackson but fat chance. Jackson's name may have the prominence as King but he certainly doesn't have the credibility or the respect among Americans.

Let’s turn the clock back a few months. December. Jesse Jackson, is down there in Florida leading protest marches and hamming it up for the cameras. Jackson is on every major network newscast – every night it seems – saying that George W. Bush and Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris had organized the Florida election in such a way as to deny blacks and other minority voters access to the polls.

The NAACP then chimed in, saying that minority voters had been prevented from casting ballots. There was something odd about Jackson’s rantings, though. Never did he or the NAACP produce one single black person who was legally registered to vote who was denied the opportunity to cast their ballot.

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights held a hearing in Tallahassee – at Jackson’s insistence – to investigate the charges.

So who testified?

Well, let’s see: We have a man who said that he saw unmanned police cars near a polling precinct on election day. He thought that was unusual. He went ahead and cast his vote.

We had a preacher who said he had been taken from the voting rolls when he was misidentified as a convicted felon. One call to the election supervisor settled things and … he cast his vote.

Then we had a woman who was stopped at a police license check roadblock miles from her precinct. They asked for her driver’s license. She produced it and was allowed to proceed. She says she was “intimidated,” but she voted.

Three witnesses --- and not one of them had been denied their opportunity to vote. Not one single witness showed up to say that he or she was actually denied the opportunity to vote.

Jackson wasn't heard from again on this subject.

When Raynard Johnson was found hanging from a tree, his family refused to accept the verdict: suicide. This was Mississippi, after all, where the rope around a black man's neck still conjures ghosts too ugly to grasp. Then Jesse Jackson arrived -- and made sure the ghosts came back to life.

Autopsies ruled the death a suicide as did a police investigation conducted at the behest of the city’s black police chief. The town’s mayor, who was also black, agreed with the conclusion of the coroner: The young man took his own life. Jesse Jackson ruled the tragedy a lynching committed by white hoodlums angry at the football star for dating a white girl without any proof. Just recently, a Justice Department investigation also concluded the young man killed himself.

Jackson never apologized nor admitted he was wrong as he left Mississippi with scars wielded by the blade of Jackson's own racism.

Must be great to cause so much pain while never having to say sorry.

Jackson now is under investigation for alleged tax fraud and the shaking down of many big businesses, not to mention a mistress who had his child out of wedlock.

Great example from a man who's leading a people with a child illegitimacy rate of near 70%(this means children born to a mother without the father being in the picture of course)

Despite Jackson's closet full of skeletons, he is praised by a misguided society. He has received the "Rock the Nation" Award from MTV, the network's highest political honor.

Jesse Jackson is a great waste of a man. He has the world stage for blacks but continues to cause hate and division where there should not be all for a profit. Jackson lives as a wealthy man from "contribution" to his many "nonprofit" organizations. Nonprofit...yea right.

Louis Farrakhan

Louis Farrakhan's call for separatism and his assertion of black racial supremacy have caused many problems for the multicultural America. He preaches black self-help and self-love, and he plays on the anger of many blacks towards whites. In a Time/CNN poll, two-thirds of the African-Americans surveyed view Farrakhan favorably; 62% thought he is good for the black community; 63% feel he speaks the truth, and 67% say he is an effective leader. Farrakhan's presence seems to have a powerful appeal. In Atlanta in 1992, Farrakhan outdrew a World Series game the same night, which further demonstrates his growing popularity.

Is this healthy to black and white relations?

Farrakhan even had a little get together a few years back called the million man march. You might have heard of it. It didn't get quite a million but an estimate of 400,000 to 600,000 proved that this racists can really real em in.

The march proved to be a financial windfall. Attendees were asked to pay $11 to attend, in the form of a donation(wink and a nod), to help cover the march's expenses. The march ran a 900 number for those wanting information for $3.99 per minute, according to an ad in Final Call, the newspaper of the Nation of Islam. March organizers paid the city of Washington, DC, the meager sum of $158 for a permit to construct vending stalls. Those stalls were then rented out to vendors for a reported price of $1,000 a pop. And Farrakhan had the balls to tell Reuter's Television that Jews are the "bloodsuckers" of the black community?

Would a white racists like David Duke(ex clansman) draw that kind of crowd? HELL NO! You would probably get more cops protecting the peace than attendees.

Al Sharpton

In 1987 Tawana Brawley was found smeared with feces and scrawled with racial epithets in the small town of Wappingers Falls. She claimed she was raped by several white men, including a police officer and a local prosecutor. Sharpton accused Steven Pagones of taking part in the alleged attack. The former prosecutor was exonerated in 1988 as the entire incident was branded a hoax by authorities. Sharpton testified that he didn't talk to Brawley in detail about the case or conduct an investigation before accusing her alleged attackers.

Sharpton never apologized or admitted being wrong.

In 1991, a car from a rabbinical motorcade hit and killed Gavin Cato, a 7-year-old African-American. An ambulance had taken Jewish victims to the hospital and ignored Cato. Sharpton showed up and caused a riot with chants like "No justice ,no peace!" alongside signs that read `The White Man is the Devil'.

Some in the angry mob shouted, "There's a Jew! Get him." A mob of black residents chased Yankel Rosenbaum, a visiting scholar studying the Holocaust, to a street corner, where he was stabbed to death. In the three days of ugly violence, 43 civilians and 152 police officers were injured.

Sharpton never apologized or admitted being wrong.

In 1995, Sharpton incited a mob that had been picketing Freddy's Fashion Mart, a Jewish-owned store in Harlem. The Mart had some sort of conflict over its lease. Sharpton saw an opportunity and began to refer to the owner as a "white interloper'' and one of Sharpton's lieutenants promised to "make this cracker suffer.'' Someone did, by torching the place. The fire killed seven innocent people, including a black security guard who was trapped inside.

Sharpton never apologized or admitted being wrong.

How can a man responsible for so much damage and death not be in jail? And to add insult to injury, Sharpton, as are the other radical leaders, are media darlings.

And what about the portrayal of white cops by these racists?

Cops, both white and black, are civil servants who put their lives on the line each and every day for less than adequate wages. And while they are on duty to protect us all from crime, the majority of their workload come in the tougher neighborhoods of the inner cities.

Not only do these cops put their lives on the line, get shot at, and often times get killed(More than 150 died on duty in 2000), but God forbid if a white cop shoots an unarmed black man. The cop is immediately branded a racists and is put on trial in the courts of black public opinion.

Last month, in Cincinnati Ohio, a white cop shot an unarmed black man. The immediate cry from the community and it's leaders was that this is the 15th black man killed at the hand of the police and that the racism MUST STOP!

Well, this is interesting fodder for rioting, which occurred for 2 days, but it isn't quite correct. The real facts where that 12 of the 15 shot by police drew weapons first. The remaining two out of the three where cases of black cops shooting black perps.

So I guess that leaves this one incident which will have it's day in court.

But the black leaders, along with the media, portrayed this as ongoing racists, police abuse. Do you mean to tell me that as soon as a white cop shoots a black man, he is racist? Do these people think that this cop woke up that day in April and said, "God, I can't wait to bag my first black guy!"?

The most prominent black leaders of today are the biggest sellouts on the planet. They've sold out their own people and even worse, their people's freedom for the all mighty dollar.

You see, the misery and hostility these fire breathers bring to the inner cities of America is worth big bucks. The worse they can make the situation seem, the greater their worth seems to those "victims" they create. Blame the white man, the Jews and the cops and watch the donations roll in. It's not unlike the religious hucksters who threaten their parishioners with hell and damn nation unless a seat in heaven is "purchased" with a handsome "donation".

Don't get me wrong, there are still racial problems in this country. There always will be. With nearly 300 million people, there will always be ignorance. But to act like we are still in the 19th century is offensive.

How many time do you hear these "leaders" mention the incredible progress black America has made since the civil rights amendment in 1964?

Well allow me:

In the 60's and before, blacks couldn't even get into white schools let alone teach in universities. A short 36 years later, there are over 64,000 black professors teaching our students.

How about the fact that if you were to add together the combined wealth of all black Americans, it would equal the 15th wealthiest nation on earth.

There are tens of thousands of black business owners, lawyers and entertainers. And let's not forget all the prominent black politicians in America Including our first secretary of state, Colin Powell.

The truth is, black Americans have come a long way since 1964. But I do recognize the great majority who still live in poverty. I believe that these radical, extremist leaders are the reason why many have not lifted up and out of their situation.

When was it the last time you heard these "leaders" mention the fact that 70% of black children are born to single mothers? Many of them young teens themselves. This is the heart of the problem in the poor, black communities. In the 60's, this number was at 22%.

How about these "leader's" stance on crime?

Blacks comprise 13 percent of the population in the United States yet account for 31 percent of all arrests. And it gets worse when you factor in violent crime apprehensions. Blacks account for 55 percent of murder arrests, 41 percent of rape apprehensions and 58 percent of robbery arrests.

Who are the victims?

Black Americans are three times more likely than whites to be robbed. Criminal complaints in black neighborhoods throughout the Untied States are routinely much higher than in white neighborhoods, according to Bureau of Justice statistics. So it is the black citizen who is most at risk for crime victimization and that has little to do with the predisposition of the police about whom to arrest.

The truth of the matter is that there are some great black voices in America. But unfortunately, there voices are stifled by the majority that don't want to hear the truth about their community.

Like the great Roy Innis & Niger Innis of CORE(Congress of Racial Equality ). On their website, they say they operate under the banner of "TRUTH! LOGIC! & COURAGE!, CORE will continue to promote harmony and healing in all aspects of society; calling the shots straight--even when it hurts--and combating the haters, race bailers and racial racketeers bent on keeping us apart". CORE is a wonderful organization that unfortunately doesn't have the stage that the Jackson and Sharpens do but one can only hope.

And I have to mention my personal hero as a writer. I think this man would be the greatest voice for black America if only he can push the hate mongers of the stage. The man I'm referring to is MICHAEL MEYERS from the New York Civil Rights Coalition and frequent contributor to the New York Post. His straight forward honesty and ability to look beyond the political correctness, inspired me to give writing a shot, although I've never taken a journalism course in my life.

In closing, I would like to say that I felt really strong about writing this piece. It's something that has bothered me for years. I've always grown up along side blacks and can say that these so called leaders do not speak for the people I have known. But unfortunately, the media makes them the majority in a way by pandering to them with air time.

Many communities in the country are stuck in neutral. Suffocating in their own anger, in many cases, without a voice to lift them to a higher ground.

You know, my neighborhood is a great place. With a 50/50 split of minority and white living in such harmony, it's a different world from what we see in the media. A place where black and white kids play together and families of all colors are friendly and courteous to each other. No one is rich, but every one is rich in character. A place where parenting is paramount and education is the cornerstone for success.

Yes, this is the kind of place that would have made Martin Luther King proud. His dream lives in America despite what the black hate movement want you to believe.

wow, no one called me a racist for posting this yet. im surprised.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I don't think those Jackson, and the others......are leaders....they're public appearance leaders, but nothing more.

I agree with you poink. The so called black leaders that you mentioned are mere opportunists, looking not for truth, reconcilliation or betterment of their people but for a plat form for their own fears and prejudices. Unity means nothing now, its a catch phrase. The reason jackson, farrakan and sharptom are able to have a perch to sing on, is that white america is to guilty to object. White America has burdened itself with something they werent able to control and now are paralyzed by the overwhelming guilt and shame. That is why you see so many white youths imitating blacks. It is because they cant find security in their own identity so they pretend to be something else.

wow another post where I agree with poink. It's sad how extremeists all over the world exploit poverty and miseryfor self-advancement.
