Well guys, after reading through a bunch of posts about ALA fat loss/muscle gain results, I just about shit my pants. If everyone's being honest, this supplement truly is God's gift to bodybuilding.
So I've been trying to decide on what would be a good method for utilizing ALA on a cutting cycle, in a convenient fashion. The logical conclusion I came to was an ALA/Protein/Carb/Fat shake - the ultimate meal replacement for someone looking to gain muscle and lose fat.
From what I understand, it is HYPO SUICIDE to ingest 1 gram of ALA in a sitting without taking in at least 100 grams of carbs.
Also, I think it would be ideal to ingest between 3 and 5 seperate servings of this hypothetical shake per day, the latter being better, as ALA has a very short half-life. The more iterations of ingestion you go through (at set intervals apart), the more effective the stuff will be.
If ALA has a half life of 30 minutes, than 1 gram of it will be utilized and metabolized with only 125 miligrams left over and active in the body after 2 hours (this probably will vary from person to person, of course, depending on body mass, insulin resistance, etc.)
At this two hour mark, the effect that the current amount of available ALA will be having on nutrition partitioning etc. has probably been shot down quite considerably, so in an ideal world, ingesting the shake every two hours might be optimum.
However, not too many people have the time to consume 8 shakes a day, so for practical reasons, let's work with 3 for now.
So, at 3 shakes a day, I'm guessing it would be good to keep the protein/carb/ALA ratio in our shake to about 50/100/1 grams, respectively, or, if you're a big'n, 75/150/1.5 grams.
Add in some coromega for your EFA's, and VOILA!
We may be onto the greatest meal replacement in bodybuilding history, regardless of whether or not you are cutting or bulking! ALA certainly has the potential blurr the lines between the two.
P.S. - for simplicity's sake, one could add a gram to a gram and a half of ALA to one serving of some weight gain product, and take this combination thrice daily. This would be super easy to do, but the hefty amounts of carbs in some such products could keep one way too far away from trace ketosis for the fat-loss effects to be noticed. However, I may be wrong.
