The Terri Schiavo case ...what do you think

To me it shows how sick the Bush administration is ...

Yes and I feel sorry for the husband.

BTW how are you Mr. Pink? ;)

she had a directive set up saying pull the plug if something like this happens, correct?

I really hope they make it painless rather than being forced by some zealot to either keep her on life suport and wait for the inevitable

Please elaborate on why it is "sick". Terri has been elevated to national attention because there is disagreement about whether she is in a "persistent vegetative state". That being the case, I prefer to err on the side of caution.

Robert Bork's opinion on the legality of Congress' action:

It's sick because politicians should not interfere in a private matter like this .... and it's clear that Bush is taking political advantage from this all ... look up the bill he passed as governor ...this says enough

There was no directive. Terri is not on life support; her heart beats and she breathes without assitance.

I feel bad for all parties involved..... my mother directed that she not be kept alive, had a living will, was also in FL -- my father chose to ignore the living will, tore it up & kept her alive against her will.......so I have some experience with the situation....

It's sad for Terri, cuz her body is alive -- breathing & heart beating on it's own, but her brain is apparantly dead..... I'd hate to live like that -- with no awareness of my surroundings & no interactions....(well allegedly, since we don't really know)

I feel bad for the husband -- cuz with the national spotlight on him & his wife, he can't win.....he's in a no-win situation -- he's the bad guy for wanting to move on with his life, since he considers his wife to have died years ago.....plus those who disagree with his desire to "pull the plug" are sending him death threats & printing horrible stories about him..... whether he's an evil person akin to OJ Simpson is irrelavent to me and I'll take it all with a grain of salt.... He's allowed to move on -- when should he is no one else's business.....

As for the parents -- I feel bad for their inability to let go of their daughter....provided the medical community is correct -- she's gone....according to them she has no clue as the brain is unable to be receptive & aware.... To a certain extent, I feel their pain & helplessness, but it's the husband's decision as to her care, etc....

Sad situation all around & I'm glad I'm not in it....

Terri didnt have a living will.....Michael just said thats what she wants......i dont know what to think......I think starving her is kind of humane....people go to jail for this kind of stuff and now they are doing it legally. It said on the news tho that she will not suffer but you never know if they are just trying to make people feel better

I feel that her parents are selfish. If this woman has been in a vegetative state for 15 years, what are they expecting to happen? Brain scans have been done and showed no activity. They should just let her go.

I always wondered why he couldn't just divorce her and let her family handle it all?

I was thinking that too.....although she's not able to sign any papers & I would assume he has POA.... don't know....

Plus he shouldn't need her signature if it was years of him trying to get a divorce.

I was in a very similar situation.

My ex g/f was in a coma due to a suicide attempt which left her brain damaged as well. I was her legal guardian and had to make certain decisions regarding her care. eg. Inserting a feeding tube directly into her stomach.

Thankfully, I did not have to make the decision as to whether she should be disconnected from life support as she did come out of her coma.

In this case, I would agree with the husband. I can see her parent's point, in wanting to keep her alive, but I think (just my opinion) that they are doing it for themselves, and not her. Of course you don't don't want you child to die, but to keep her alive, in this state, is not living. The chance of pulling through, and having any sort of normal life, is next to zilch, especially after this length of time in a coma.

Need coffee, heh....too early for me to think clearly.

they lost their battle to get the tube back in this time

Unfortunately, it isn't over. Congress moved this case to the federal courts because they knew that the federal judge in Fl would issue a decision against the family. Now the family will appeal the decision to one of the most conservative Federal Circuit courts in the country - the 11th Circuit located in Atlanta. It will surprise me if they overturn the Fl. judge's decision.
