The Term "African American" Improperly Used

***

New member
the other day i heard someone on TV refer to lennox lewis as an african american lmao and he's not the first.

in this age of PC-ness so many people are afraid to say the word black when describing a black person and always use the term "african american" to describe anyone who's black. honestly, are there any black people who are offended by the term black? i know of more black people that don't like being called african american than being called black.

When I do laundry, I feel weird calling my clothes "lights" and "darks." Seems racist somehow.

So in essence, you abolished segregation.

I don't like the term African American. I prefer black eventhough I look more red than black. It's the Injun blood from from my grandma. Now I know that wasn't PC. Aw fuck it.

I think the term "African American" should apply only to those African immigrants, white or black, who have come to the US and have become citizens of this country.

Well, with all this PC bullshit, what is everyone suppose to do? It use to be Black was not PC and African American was. Now somehow it's the opposite.

Political correctness is ruining this country. People get offended in rediculous proportions.

Everytime I hear a white person say AA, I Imagine them thinking how silly It is that I have to use this term.

How do I know just because you have darker skin that your heritage is African ?

I mean, some are obvious but to just use the term for everyone ?

Actually, if you believe Science, all humans came out of Africa.

ABSOLUTELY !!!

We need to lift the cob web of Political Correctness from our eyes and see things as they really are and not as some fictional ideal.

Whether or not you were born here or immigrated here and became a citizen you are an American period! When you start hypenating you loose the meaning of what it is to be American.

To be American is in essence what it is to be a Marine. Follow me here.

In the Marines there are just Marines, nothing more, nothing less.

You join the Marine Corps, then become a Marine.

So when you come to America, you join America and become an American, nothing more, nothing less.

If you are born here you are American by default.

If you feel you must hyphenate the title, then do it in this fashion,

Amercan-African, American-Mexican, etc. That way at least you are showing what you are first and where you or your ancestors came from.

The other way implies that you American statust is second class. And if that is the case then we don't need you here.

I had a college professor that was white but immigrated from South Africa. He considered himself to be an African-American and that makes more sense to me than some homeboy in Detroit that's never stepped outside the USA considering himself an African American.

lol, that's so true. since when did calling someone black be offensive? it's way much easier to say that then say african american.

...LOL

If you were born in America.... you're not African

If you wanna be called an African... get the fuck out. We dont want you here nor do we need you here.

Dont fucking like it... too fucking bad. the majority of America feels the same way.... unfortunately most are too chicken shit to say it. But Americans are already getting tired of this PC bullshit and it wont be long before our tolerance level for it is gone.

JUST LEAVE.... Im SURE Africa would love to have you.

I can understand someone that was born in Africa, Immigrated here and became a citi.

Be proud of where you come from but be prouder of being an American.

Do you other 3rd world peeps hear the terms
Polish-Canadian
Spanish-Brit
New Zealand-Australian

My family is from South Africa....Afrikaan. Does that make me an African-Canadian? Do you have to have dark skin pigment to be african-american?

I hate this liberal shit

Hell,
I am an American-Indian, as my ancestors are from here (Blackfoot to be exact. Just one of many races mixed in.) Notice how it American first, not Indian? Notice how they/we do not run around calling ourselves Blackfoot-American, or Apache-American, etc?

I'm gonna move to Africa so I can be an American African. Then I'm gonna move back so I can be an American African American.

I personally dont care what I'm called (Black or AA) and I too have Indian heritage.

Just dont call me nigger or I'll beat that ass.

Black would be much more accurate a racial or ethnic term to describe Lennox Lewis. He's British (or Canadian depending on who you ask), so he could be African Anglican, but certainly not African American.

I just use the word "nizzo"....if it's good enough for Snoop, it's good enough for me.
