He's not Russian, he's Uzbekistanian. He stepped up in competition and won a split decision against John Ruiz which is a very solid win. It's doubtful he's the guy to unify any titles, though he can probably win one as currently Shannon Briggs and Oleg Maskaev hold titles. Klitscho would probably tear him apart though.

I think there are about 10 guys currently called 'White Tyson'. Any white guy that pads his record with bums and throws a decent left hook gets that nickname.

I saw that fight. Tua was primed to be the next champion until he ballooned up in weight. One tough bastard and he's never been knocked down. Probably the best left hook in boxing.
