Alright fellas...

Over the past week or so on numerous boards ive been hearing this 'hearsay'
regarding the use of IGF and problems with regards to cancerous tissue growth/ immune suppression hibbity hibbity hoop lah...

Just curious on whether there is fact to any of this.

Ive posted in it, and that thread become an argument about a 19y/old running 4 grams a week.

Feedback...

I have always heard people that stay away from milk cite that it raises igf levels which cause prostate cancer... However there is an entire array of igf's so any more info on cancer and igf-1 would be appreciated.

I believe there is more of an issue with the possibility of IGF-1 accelerating the rate of growth of a pre-existing tumor rather than IGF causing a tumor. I think both are actually false from some things I remember reading. I really have to start saving all the good article I read so I can reference them.

Yes, IGF-1 can perpetuate the growth of pre-existing cancer cells that would normally be destroyed by the body. The problem is, there are already thousands of cancer cells in everyones body at any given time. It's just that the body has a great system in place to deal with these cells. IGF-1, and HGH for that matter(which stimulates the release of IGF-1) inhibits the body's natural response to the cancer cells. It really is a roll of the dice... Article to come...
Ok, here it is...one of many you can find with a simple google search:

http://www.preventcancer.com/patients/med_avoid/hgh.htm

"...HGH induces growth promoting and other effects by stimulating the liver to increase production of the natural Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) whose blood levels normally decline with advancing age. However, there are numerous publications in prestigious peer reviewed scientific journals showing that elevated IGF-1 levels are strongly associated with major excess risks of colon, prostate, and breast cancers ; even minor elevations are associated with up to 7-fold increased risks of breast cancer, risks almost as high as those in women carrying genes (BRCA1 and BRCA2) with the strongest hereditary predisposition. Additionally, IGF-1 inhibits the programmed self-destruction (apoptosis) of cancer cells, thus stimulating the growth and invasiveness of small, undiagnosed cancers, besides increasing the resistance of cancers to chemotherapy. ..."

I believe those studies have to do with bovine growth factor which is different from lr3igf-1.
I would expect someone to use the same precautions as if they were using growth hormone. Both compounds can accelerate benign tissue growth
