I've used ALL of those except the www.noacne one. For really bad cystic acne - the big painful zits (read pizza face), nothing beats Accutane. Accutane is a very strong medicine with some very unpleasant side effects. You have to have monthly blood tests while you're on it to monitor liver function. Women have to use 2 forms of contraceptive because it DOES cause birth defects. I took Accutane about 15 years ago and it definitely worked. No zits for 5 years, and after that just one or two.

Other than that, the best remedy I've found is Pantothenic Acid, which is vitamin B5. It definitely works if you take a high enough dose, like between 8-10 GRAMS (not milligrams 1000mg = 1 gram) a day. A year ago my acne started to flair up again bad enough where I was considering Accutane. I'd read about Pantothenic from Elite (do a search lots of info) and decided to give it a try, and it worked. No zits anymore!

I've never found the topical stuff (Retin A, Cleocin T, etc.) very helpful except for turning my face into sandpaper. Tetracycline worked somewhat in the beginning, but take it for very long and your teeth can turn permanently gray (and bleaching won't really help).

As for time to work, both the Accutane and Pantothenic took 2-3 months to see real results, but they definitely DO work well.

Tetracycline and doxycyline both worked for me, but I didn't like the side effects(mean diarrhea). I also still burn fairly easily and I've been off the med's for 4-5 months now.I just got a prescription for retin-A, might start that soon. I will probably start B-5 or/and guggul first.

Some ways to help yourself

Non-Prescription/OTC Remedies
- Topical Vitamin E & Aloe Vera Gel, roughly $6, from GNC, its clear and it works well

- Aloe Vera Gel - even by itself, its a great cleaner

- Vitamin B-5 in gram amounts, never tried it but have heard some good results

- Rubbing alcohol - Kills bacteria, but can dry skin fast

- Mary Kay "Magic Masque" - Works great

Prescription Remedies
- Tetracycline/similar antibiotics - Good for most people, in more severe cases, can be combined with Retin-A for better results, no sides for most, but it turns bones yellow, the roots of your teeth will turn yellow, but as for exterior, dont know....

- Retin-A Cream/Gel - Go for the Gel if you decide to get this, its made with alcohol and the alcohol evaporates very very fast off of the skin, leaving the medicene behind... the cream leaves a greasy residue, but both are equally effective - Havent tried the new Retin-A "Micro" Gel which is supposedly even better

- Accutane - Works 99.9% of the time, however, it should be used as a last resort as it really hammers the liver and messes with your oil glands in order for it to work.

If anyone else has any remedies, feel free to share

I'm there w/ the Pantothenic Acid / B5 as well. I never had the major pizza face, but I have oily skin & I've had consistent zits since I was 13 (23 years later...). I'm one of those people who can dry out skin from the sun & still have zits. B5 is the ONLY thing that has made a serious improvement - that includes results against retin-A & all the OTC stuff you can get.

No-Acne.com didnt work for me...it started out pretty good...wicked smooth face....then I broke out pretty bad.

Minocyclin worked decent, but not good enough

I am 5 weeks into Accutane (60mg)....no complaints so far....15 weeks to go. Results don't really register for a while, but i am happy with my progress thus far. Bloodtests and monthly checkups/reordering pills are a pain, but if this is the final cure its worth it.

Oh, and if you decide to try the stuff do it soon, b/c the rules and regulations are changing soon....Accutane will be much harder to get.
