The End of History?

Some years ago, a brilliant book was written called The End of History. It's thesis is that history is a record of conflict, war and battle. If you eliminate that conflict, you don't have much history to record. The book claims that historical struggles are coming to an end because humans are moving towards universal recognition that social democracy is the only moral, legitimate and effective form of government for humans. Add world trade and globalization, and national struggles evaporate.

Communism, as an alternative, died out. We are now seeing desperate efforts of radical Islamic culture fighting to prevail while Western culture and technology leave them in the dust. All the West needs now is an inexpensive new source of energy and Islamic cultures will sink into permanent obscurity. Ask yourself if Libya or Saudia Arabia has agriculture (no), industry(no), mining (no), abundant water sources (no) or a trained technological populace (no). Take away the oil wealth and they will be forgotten.

A new world is being born, indeed! For many, the greatest challenge will be living without the excitement of war - or tragedy

But we still have a few years yet to go before we fully reach that state of being, as humans.

That's an interesting angle. Humans have known violence from the beginning of time, be it either war or even entertainment. Even so-called advanced civilizations throughout history have made violence at some level a part of society.

I think in order for war or violence to end there has to be some kind of dramatic event or something that triggers a change in human consiousness or some crap like that which causes us to lose our "animal"instincts. Probably not happening in our lifetime.

As for alternate fuel sorces, there are too many "western" corperations and companies that stand to lose far to much if an alternate efficient fuel sorce is found.

Very interesting angle, but if i may remind you at the turn of the centrury (1900) they believed that WAR was obsolete...that the world was to civilized for war...and may i point out that the 20th century was one of the bloodiest centuries of all time

furthermore, it is human nature to be aggressive, if not the whole spicies than at least part of it, remember we are animals, highly educated ones, but animals none the least.. and we have instincts such as competitiveness, agression, territorial habits...ect,

So my friend, War and Conflict are continuously evolving, just like most other stuff and unfortunately for some it is a beast that will not go extinct

Takes an optimist to predict world peace right now. I'd have an easier time predicting a long, bloody battle with many civilian losses.

Wouldn't surprise me too much. Man has never made a weapon he didn't use. Sure hope we don't have to go nuclear. I really don't like to kill innocent people. Too tough on their family and friends.
