The ACLU and Bill O'Reilly

Yeah I've listened to Bill for about 2 years now and agree with most of what he says. Except for his stance of the drug war. I think he's got it all wrong there. But who am I?

I've always thought the antipathy of the Republicans to the ACLU to be strange. Since the REpublicans are (supposed to be) for individual liberty it would seem like a good fit.

But seeing how the Ashcroftian Prison Nation is driving such Republican luminaries as Dick Armey into cooperation with the ACLU, that would seem to be changing.

The ACLU has recently hired some big-name conservatives as consultants to capitalize on this new found popularity.

I have no idea who Bill O'Reilly is though.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2002-11-24-aclu-usat_x.htm

Laura Murphy, director of the ACLU's Washington office, said the group has been working with [Rep. Bob] Barr since the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. "He's been very concerned about the government's willingness to violate people's Fourth Amendment and privacy rights" and was "instrumental in preventing a lot of overboard wiretapping laws," she said.

Armey started working with the ACLU after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. She said Armey was instrumental in making sure the new Homeland Security Act did not include a national ID card or Operation TIPS, a planned Terrorism Information and Prevention System in which people would phone in tips on suspect neighborhood activity. Murphy called it a "citizen spying corps."

It most likely comes from the fact that the ACLU likes to only pick and choose what rights it will defend. They will rarely, if ever defend someone's right to own a gun.

bill o'reilly is an ignorant bigot of man, he attacks Hiphop without even knowing about Hiphop..he then gives himself creditibilty by saying that he has indeed been to "the hardest" ghettos in such countries as Afirca so he "knows what gos on there".

as far as i've seen, bill o'reilly is the only person in news with the balls to REALLY deal with significant issues. i don't agree with a lot of his views, but i respect the hell out of him. he brings people on his show from both sides, and often times is made to look like an ass by someone who disagrees with him. but at least he's willing to do that. most of these other so-called news analysts barely skim across the surface of the issues and never make any substantial assertions. at least bill o'reilly has IDEAS and a sense of fairness and logic, things which are foreign concepts to most members of the media.

even if you disagree with him, watch his show.... he is great at bringing to light some of the ridiculous practices and goings-on in this country.
