Technical Blood Test Question..

Hi Girls and indeed guys.

I dont pop up here often but when I do its usually a complicated question, but I dont think this one is too bad! LOL

I know nothing about blood test resulst, this is not for AS, I have just had my lipid and thyroid tested because I am about to start a course of Roaccutane. (not for the first time either! )

Just got the results, and all four things they tested for are completely normal, and no action is required.

Just out of curiosity I asked the doctor what the thyroid result was, even though I dont know what I am talking about, so excuse me and please help me, the result was 0.88, can you tell if i have a fast or slow metabolism from that or if its low or sluggish or normal or high, obviosuly its normal or test would have said otherwsie.

Im just curious what my result means compared to an average.

I hope you understand what I mean here people!! LOL

Regards

Hi Sheena,

About the thyroid number...do you know what it was for, like T4, TSH, or what? When I had just a basic blood panel that wasn't specifically for thyroid, they tested free T4 and TSH only. The normal range for T4 is 0.7-1.9 ng/dl and for TSH 0.5-4.7 uiu/ml (according to what's printed on my test). There are other more involved thyroid tests that test T3 and other things. As for whether your results indicate fast or slow metabolism, I don't know, but I'm sure someone else can tell you more, once you know what specifically they tested.

I finished my second course of Accutane a few months ago. My first course was about 10 years ago. I thought the side effects were much less the second time around, and the results - fantastic!
