happyscrappy made me think about this just now. i have thought about getting a tattoo. thing is i would only get one if i knew for sure what i would want and it would go on my medial delt. i have never thought of anything for sure that i would want, so i haven't gotten one. i'm just wondering what everyone else on here thinks of them, especially the ladies. so, let's hear it.

I love ink so I'm covered. My wife is also tattooed pretty heavy.
My advice normally would be to think about it long and hard before getting it, but you already got that. When you are ready go talk to a reputable artist, make sure shop is hospital clean, and discuss your plans with him\her. I'll add this warning though, once you start you don't stop!:D

I HAVE ONLY ONE. ITS IN THE MIDDLE OF MY LOWER BACK. I ALWAYS SAID I WOULD NVR GET ONE BUT I LOVE IT. THAT IS THE ONLY PLACE I WOULD EVER GET A TAT. THOUGH I AM THINKING OF GETTING ONE ON MY UPPER MIDDLE BACK. AS LONG AS YOU CANT SEE THEM UNLESS I HAVE MY SHIRT OFF I'M STRAIGHT.

THAT APPLIES FOR LADIES TO IMO. I THINK THE ONLY PLACE THAT IS SEXY FOR A LADY TO HAVE A TAT IS THE LOWER, MIDDLE BACK. AS LONG AS ITS NOT OSTENTATIOUS.

HOW CAN YOU "LOVE IT" WHEN YOU CAN NOT EVEN SEE IT UNLESS YOU TWIST AROUND?

I have one on my right shoulder of the Italian Horn. It's red with a gold crown and 3 jewels on it. The jewels are colored green, white, and red to symbolize the Italian flag

I got it b/c it means something to me, and represents the Italian in me. Next month or the month after I plan on going back to the same artist to get something that represents the Irish in me on my right rear delt.

Further down the road I'll get the Marine Corps logo with "Death before dishonor" and "USMC" written around it.

Whatever you choose to get, get it because it has meaning to you. Don't let price deter you from getting the one you really want either.

I've got to agree with everything that BigSatan and KAYNE have said they nailed it on the head.

I have 4 of them and as was said before they are addicting. My entire left upper arm and shoulder are covered. For some people it's not a lot but compared to the majority it is.

Good luck.

I have 3. A butterfly on my r.ankle. Another butterfly on my r.shoulder blade and a sorta tribal thingy on my lower back. I like them and they can always be covered up so its no big deal. I'm happy i have them but i dont want anymore. And I got them for me. I could care less what a guy thinks of them.

LOL - true on the "once you start" thing. I love my husband's tats - right now we have what appears to be the never ending project going on his arm and shoulder. So far 2- 3 hour sittings have turned into 6- 3 hour sittings and it still isn't done. It looks great, though. As has already been said - make sure the place is hospital clean and the artist is a good one.

80% of the tattoos I've ever seen scream "Scumbag Low Life Looser"
You can perfect that look, showing off your new tattoo with a dirty torn wifebeater and a ragged goatee.
I'd avoid the tatoo if you hope to rise above your current social/professional status.
Exception: a tatoo of the Marines, if you've earned it.

Bullshit!

I have one, my wife has two, and we're not neither of us are done yet. Oh and we both have professional jobs.

depends on how many, what they are of, and if they suit the individual in question...

i'm not big on them, but if a guy had one or two i wouldn't sweat over it.

I have 3. One on my lower back, one on my backside, and one in the front. I love them. I'm glad I have all of them. One of them especially has great significance for me. I chose to put them where I did because I wanted to be able to wear professional clothes or be in a bridesmaid dress etc without my ink being visible. I think it's a personal choice (though I've seen some really horrid ones on some people and I wonder what on earth they were thinking). ;)

I'M IN SCHOOL FOR FINANCE, WHEN IT COMES TIME FOR ME TO GET A JOB NEXT YEAR AND MY PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER SEES A TAT ON ME, I WONT GET HIRED. SIMPLE AS THAT.

BG
YOU COULD HAVE THEM ALL OVER AND STILL BE FINE. LOL

I am covered with a lot of ink. I appreciate the art. However, there is nothing worse than poseur tattoo art. When you commit ink to your body, do it to represent, not to be trendy.

He won't see it unless you have it on your face, head, or hands. As long as you are in professional attire with a suit you'll cover it up. I don't worry about that at all in my profession.

Now if I could only grow my hair out again!

Really? Well 100% of the people who view tattooed people as low life scumbags are assholes. Any so called social\profession
status that judges on appearence only aren't worth what they think they are. Who would want to be a part of anything like that.
Don't think so highly of yourself, you're very shallow.

I have no problem with tastefully done "body art".
My post was simply that most tattoos don't rise anywhere near that level of artistry.
This weekend I was standing in the checkout counter of Pep Boys. The checkout clerk had holes thru his ears big enough to use bolts for earrings. He had a snake tattoo winding down his arm to the back of his hand and a tat of dice on his neck. This is the South, it's HOT, we wear short sleeves and tank tops. None of this could be covered up with any amount of "professional attire". He will for the rest of his life look like a guest on the Springer Show. While he rang up my purchase, he was grousing to his co-worker how he couldn't find a better paying job....duh!
He has the right to mark up his body for life, but he needs to understand in the real world his actions have consequences. If that makes me a shallow asshole, so be it. No apologies.

Tattoos?!?

I think they can say a lot about a person...and when the person takes the time to pick out a design that is significant to them, it can create special meaning.

Personally, I also like tattoos that don't use every color know to man...I think they can tend to look gaudy, or overdone, but that is just my opinion.

For myself, I have one. I used the basic symbol I used to sign my artwork...and let the tattoo artist enhance it a bit... Turned out really cool and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
