Did Jones just try to avoid getting KO'd like I figured?

Just as I thought. He fought only to survive. Jones is no Muhammed Ali.

Cmon yall

I think Muhammad Ali has the most heart of any boxer
But Roy Jones was World Champ of about 4 different weight classes
Noones ever done that. I just think u need to be born heavyweight to compete there.

Stop hatin' my man from Pensacola FL, Roy Jones
Roy is one of the best boxers we've seen in years. If he was 20-30 pounds heavier, and just as fast, look out!!! :Chef: :tuc:

That physique you just described was Muhammad Ali.

Ali could slim down but the spotlight back then was on the Heavyweight Division. Plus he was as fast as a Middleweight and was 210+ lbs.

i totally agree jones was one of the best, but he tarnished his legacy losing his last 3 fights

No doubt he was great in his time. How about James Toney? He may have been more talented than Jones. He won again last night in the heavyweight division and will get another shot at the title. Which of course he already won but was stripped for having Deca in his system. I can't wait to see 5'9" Toney against 6'7" Klitschko. That should be interesting.

The only boxer I can think of that left at the right time was Marciano.

See this is what makes Roy Jones great...
James Toney's been dropping 30-40 some odd pounds to fight as a middleweight. He's had a history of problems making weight 160-168

But I stand corrected , and I didn't know this about James Toney. James Toney started as a middleweight. So tht's basically 3 weight classes he's fought and been a champion in , but each boxing federation has thier own weight classes. Stopping at 227 , is probably a good move.

68-4-2 good record. To be honest I've never been a James Toney fan but after doing some brief research he deserves recognition. At age 36 though well have to check out the rest of his career. But when Toney was fighting 160 and 168 , his real weight was more like 195...

If you read the history of Muhammad ALi , he to didn't call it quits early enough. He has to pay for that through Parkison's disease. His image however is probably greater now then it was when he was an active boxer

Every boxer has gone on for too long except for Marciano.

Well I'd say Lennox Lewis did call it quits early. Larry Holmes called it quits just in time and is now richer then he ever was

Tyson, Ali, Louis, Jones Jr., Holyfield, Foreman, and Frazier are just a few who took it too far. But Lewis and Holmes did quit at the right time. Sonny Liston fought too long too.

Tyson and Ali don't belong in the same category...I watched them both in their primes and it is like apples and oranges.

In terms of when they ended thier carrer , I see why they are gouped together
In terms of boxing style , absolutely not. They were total opposites

I really enjoyed Ali, his demeanor and his playfullness with ole Howard...Mike, I always felt bad for, he was used so badly it was pathetic...too bad Cus D'Amato died because Mike went into the tubes once he didn't have the proper oversight.

GJ,

That's what I had thought, Tyson was with Cus D'Amato's until his death from pneumonia in 1985 then he continued on to the heavyweight title with Kevin Rooney as his trainer and his promoters Jim Jacobs and Bill Cayton.

A great American tragedy if you ask me. Ali's is a story of hope...

Gnite bro.
