ok, now that I've been living here a while I'm turning all paisty white.

How often does a guy have to use those stupid beds to keep from being albino. I don't normally tan to easily

I usually go for a month before I have a play coming up....I go from fairly white to very dark quickly......if you have dark hair, dark(olive) skin you will typically tan faster than fair skinned light haired folks.

Once I get dark I can go 2x per week to maintain

not too sure, as i have a natural tan... just walk around outside with no shirt, tanning machines are dangerous to your skin. wear a light SPF outside and tan that way

With the ozone and pollution in your current state you are actually risking a lot more by tanning outside 'naturally'. The beds allow you to limit the amount of more harmfull ultraviolet light by filtering the wavelengths to a desirable exact ratio. Plus to promote melanogenesis though uv rays you will have to get enough exposure to damage the dna of the pigments already in your skin to get the chamical messenger back to your pituitary and promote the release of a-msh, which in turn creates more melanin pigments as a self defence mechanism to prevent further damage, so to get the same level of pigmentation by each method you will have to be under the bed the equivelent amount of time to get that effect, whether its 40:10 (outside:inside), the only difference is inside you can limit your exposure to the rays more likely to burn or mutate (cancer) the cells.

What's the name of that "tanning pill" that used to be all the rage on here? Supposed to make you tan faster when exposed to the sun/bed.

yep, and it is expensive too...just self-tan.

It's called trisolaren or meladinina. It works wonders in giving you a deep dark tan. It works by increasing melanin. It's cheaper than jon abate's crappy tanning creams and works 100 times better.
