What is the name of that tanning medicationt hat people use. It increases one's body's out put a melanin I think. Is it available in Mexico? :fro:

not sure what it's called, but doesn't it also darken your palms, and make your eyes kinda yellowish like you have hepatitis?

The group of medications that cause an increased production of melanin (melanogenesis) in conjunction with UV exposure are called psoralens. The two most common psoralens are Methoxsalen and Trioxsalen. There are also two other compounds which cause a similar effect, they are Ficusin and Khellin. Shopping for Methoxsalen and Trioxsalen is similar to Cabergoline.... The highest price source can be anywhere from 10-20 times the cost of a lower price source. I buy Methoxsalen for $9.00 for 25 10 mg pills, but I see this stuff sold all over the web for $200-$400 for 50 10mg pills.

There is a lot conflicting information available On whether these drugs are safe or can cause accelerated aging of the skin and melanoma (strange as you would think increased melanin would provide better protection from UV rays). I use this on occasion when I have skipped tanning for an entended time (4+ weeks) and want to get a base tan back quickly. Personally, I think that moderate doses of Tyrosine (1-2G) a couple of times per day work almost as well. You could also try taking niacin prior to tanning as the flushing response in conunction with the UV exposure will cause most poeple to get more color out of their sessions. As a side note the really expensive tanning lotions that have "tingle factor" are in effect doing the same thing that a cheap dose of niacin will.

AutinTX, there is a potential for psoralens to cause an increase in liver enzymes, but it is usually only an issue for individuals using moderately high doses for a very long time.... This would normally be limited to people taking a psoralen to treat vitiligo, a disorder where the body has destroyed melanocytes (cells that make melanin).... Treatment is normally as 20mg dose 3X per week for 12-24 months. The drug that is more likely to cause the effects you mentioned is canthaxanthin. It is a color additive for food that when taken in high doses orally, acts as a "sunless" tanning product. However, when taken orally for this purpose, it is deposited throughout the body including areas like the hand and in many cases turns people orange as opposed to tan. Canthaxanthin is prone to cause strain on the liver which can cause someone to become jaundiced. It also can cause a condition called retinopathy where yellow deposits form in the retina.

If you haven't tried it yet, I would reccomend that you try tyrosine first. As it is the primary precursor to melanin, it can cause an effect similar to a psoralen.... It is also less expensive, helps improve mood (precursor to dopamine), can accelrate fat loss as it is also the precursor to noradrenaline....

I just bought a box of Oxsoralen (8 Euros for 25capsules, european prices rule!) and went tanning twice for only 8 minutes a seession (usually go for at least 12), havin taken 20mg about 2 hours before:
I´m darker than I´ve ever been before, my skin feeld smooth and healthy. I´m taking high dose Sun Vitamins (basically beta carotin and other antioxidants before) and I use California Tan X-Power cause it contains many compounds to held bulid a tan.

I´ll be cautios, though, I will not exceed 3x tanning a week, might lower dose of Oxsoralen to only 10mg.

How would these work on someone

with a comlpexion of say, KEN WALLER? I guess that dtes me huh?
