Sustained released ALA

I got some of this cheap...300mg Jarrow, time released.

Can someone tell me the pros and cons of time released? If i wanted fast absorbtion could I just smash up the tablets?

thanks :)

I am not sure, but I would think that the time release would be better for antioxidant properties, but not for glucose uptake.

Time released often is a mistake. Time release niacin will kill your liver. Time release vitamin c can burn a hole in your intestines.

well I did a little experiment today:

I tested for ketones (strips) midday, then I worked out: weights plus cardio for 30mins.
Following the workout I had 50grams of whey isolate and 50grams of dextrose along with 600mg of time released ALA.

results: 45 min later no trace of ketones, BUT, 2 hours later I was back in the red and showing moderate ketones :)

I'm pretty convinced that ala is awesome for CKD, I'm gonna use this time released version and get some regular tabs also...I'm thinking that time released may work on the weekend (carb up) and regular ALA or rALA during CKD week ( ketosis).

once again, any thoughts appreciated
