Sushi?

love the stuff
make it myself
the health benefits are well documented
please note that you should get it from a reputable source
some found in grocery stores these days are using long grain rice
which makes it cheaper but dryer once it's refrigerated
i try to treat myself to it once a week from one of my 3 favourite places
and when short on cash i make it myself
i love saba (mackerel), bbq salmon skin, any spicy rolls esp tuna, salmon roe and unagi (eel)

Ohhh the title of this thread made me salivate like Pavlov's dog. It's all healthy although whenever I have it I usually eat my body weight in it and I get nervous about the white rice, since it's not a complex carb, but other than that eat up!

Sushi is awesome! High in protein, and with cuts like salmon (sake), yellowtail (hamachi), and mackerel (saba), high in EFAs. The fact that it's raw is great because cooking ruins some of the nutritional value of protein-rich foods.

Actually sushi isn't that great -- it's sashimi that is! All the white rice in nigiri sushi makes it bad. Rolls are even worse what with the sugar-filled sauces that are sometimes used in the specialty rolls. God, if it wasn't so expensive I'd eat sashimi everyday while cutting! Maybe even every meal!

To me, fatty tuna (toro) is the best stuff on earth! It's rather hard to find and extremely expensive, though. $12 for 2 pcs. last time I had it. It's heaven though... like butta! :chomp:

guys you need to take more of a look at the ingredients of sushi.

they use tiny amounts of fish (ie protein) in each piece of sushi. it is very high carb due to the rice, and relatively low in protein. This can be verified by doing any check on the internet or on the back of a ready packaged box.

I'm not knocking it - i LOVE the stuff, but the bottom line is that it's mainly white rice. I was actually thinking of trying to make it with brown rice, but i think it'll turn out gross.

basically it's high carb but what the hell, it's worth it! i have it as a standalone meal and have an extra chicken breast (ie extra protein) with less than my usual share of carbs in an earlier meal on the day that i plan to have some sushi.

tried eel at my fave sushi restaurant the other day, it was suprisingly nice! :)

How good i sushi for you..the rolls, like tuna roll, or salmon roll,

Sushi by itself is very good for you, it is the sauce{sodium} and rice{carbs}
that are not great. Try to get the bigger pieces of fish so you get less rice and dont use the sauce!!

Or just get a mixed platter of sashimi & sushi.....

We make it at home with brown rice and use more fish/shrimp than what we would get at a restaurant. Yummmmmmmy!

Sushi Rocks - Sashimi is even better - Wife & I don't eat the deep fried stuff nor the dishes infested with mayo. Lite soy sauce sparingly and no beers either. If we eat out not often its 9 out of 10 a trusted sushi joint. I won't eat Uni or Unagi!!

all sushi is amazing i love baked samlon roll, eel, and rib roll, but costs so much at good places... i am going to a place that is all you can eat with my brother... he told me it's really good and it's quality stuff.
i can't wait

I like it. Too bad its too expensive in Russia and not as fresh as in Thailand. I just got back from Thailand and I had a great experience with sushi there :) is a great food for bodybuilders, rice isnt that bad for us bodybuilders, its good clean food and I gotta agree sashimi is much better than sushi for cutting! :) Too bad I cant afford to eat it all day long! :) Oh well I think I`ll get back to thailand soon :)

The ratio mentioned is a garbage number. It depends entirely on how it is made. Sometimes it has a ton of rice and very little fish, sometimes the opposite.

I eat it almost every day for lunch because the place I go to makes the best sushi I have ever had. I also like to just buy a pound of raw salmon and make it in a bowl with rice and eat that with some soy sauce.

Boop - sodium is not bad for you.

That is a wonderful idea. I have to try that.

I also love just getting a raw tuna or salmon steak and just dipping it some low sodium soy sauce or a low cal/fat sauce

Fish wrapped suhi contains approx. 200 cals, 2.5g fat, 20g carbs, 12.5g protein, per 5 piece serving. It also contains B-vitamins, minerals like selenium, and Omega 3 fatty acids. It all depends on how it is made and portion size, but generally should resemble this.
