Surviving a Trip to GNC

I'll bet some of you thought this was going to be somewhat of a rant on GNC. It is, and it isn't. I will try to resist the arrogance that sometimes wells up in me when referring to GNC, and keep it strictly informative.

GNC is run stellar in terms of operations. They have their share of quirks, but the specialize in making a lot of product, and making it available en masse. They basically move stuff around.

From a customer service point of view, they could use a serious overhaul. So armed with a few key realizations, you can save yourself both a lot of time and aggravation.

When I worked at GNC, I enjoyed it at first because I really knew about supplements which was far more than their happy little training computer knew. In fact, I notified them that their training program had a mistake in it, a problem that noone picked upon the whole 2 years of that version's existence. But the pettiness of huge corporation retail began to seep in and I saw that noone who workded for GNC really enjoyed working there, nor was motivated to do much beyond the minimal.

When you go into a GNC. Go in, as if, the person you will be speaking to knows NOTHING about the products. That way, anything else will be a bonus. If the salesperson doesn't know an answer and is honest about it, that's good. But if he bullshits, before you get mad, try to notice if his bs is malicious, or if he's sincere but is just trying to stay afloat by reciting company slogans and training information word for word.

If you want to see where the employee's head is at in one quick flash, ask what she believes are the top 5 supplements for people training hard. It should contain at least 4 of the following 5:

Protein Power or MRP
Multi Vitamin
Glutamine
Creatine
Joint Formulas

These were my picks, and Flex mag's picks a while back. The point is not whether thats true, but that, in a nutshell, those are generally speaking most important.

If you have a Gold Card, write your number in your wallet in case you left it at home. When it expires it expires, but if the clerk is easygoing he'll just run the GC through with the number only....no skin off is back.

I'll continue this later...im crashing, literally,

Bassad
