Supplement Industry Study

Hey everyone,

For my work I am in charge of doing montly state of the industry snapshots for various products sectors. For this month's I was able to talk my boss into how great an idea the athletic supplementation industry would be. Does anyone have any idea where i might be able to find published info on the size of the market and that sort of information. Any help would be much appreciated I relish any chance to look at elite while at work, and now I can do so an get paid

I hate to be the one to tell you this but you will have to work off 'guess' estimates at best. I've had to try to estimate the size of markets for a large number of products ranging from bicycle tires to condoms. For competative reasons... no one is going to want to make their info available to you.

The supplement industry is by far the most secretive. The top selling mailorder vitamin company in the world doesn't even promote the fact that it is the top company... and they will not let anyone know who ANY of the company officers are. (They even take the '5th' when asked in depositions if they work for the company.)

You can break the market down by some sectors... like GNC's financial reports.. or those of VitaQuest and GSN... but you will not find an accurate way of getting a full global picture or of different sectors within the natural products market.
