Do you think the media is under reporting the violence because the overwhelming majority of people involved are black, and media do not want to be seen as "racist"?
HumorMe said:Very much so.
Also, the body count is being repressed too.
I guarantee you the authorities know or at least have a general idea of how many are dead. It's of epic proportions by US standards.
Thousands and thousands are dead and more dying every hour.

How many people died on 9/11?
MattTheSkywalker said:I was in NY the day before this hit. I used to live in NO, and I was telling my family that this will cause more death than 9/11. I just knew the demographics and geography.
They looked at me like I was crazy. I wish I was wrong, but it will have killed more people than 9/11 when the count is known.
Agree with you on the media; I also believe that the constant reporting showing African American looters and violence will keep donations down.
HumorMe said:People remember Camille and they lived through it and thought it couldn't be any worse than that storm. Complacency has played a large roll in this disaster.
I fear upwards of 30,000+ have perished in this storm and I hope I am way off but there are still areas of the gulf coast that haven't been reached yet.
I saw pictures of entire towns (small albeit) completely gone. Total and complete devastation.
I agree about the looter and violence thing. Who wants to send money to a bunch of thugs scenario will be seen.
It's tragic, sad, angry, frustrated, etc all rolled up into one ball.
MattTheSkywalker said:Camille was actually a much more powerful storm; I think it was the second most powerful EVER, after Gilbert, which killed like 13,000 people in Nicaragua way back.
Imagine more people dying in the states from a storm than in Nicaragua?! (I don't think the numbers will be that high. Maybe I am blind).
