Superbike guys....I need

PBR

New member
a wiring diagram for the HONDA 1000RR...its not in my manual....just fininshed putting on the racing exhaust and re-did all the turn signals...now my turn indicators dont work....i tried matching them up to no avail...im not good at electircal, but i did my 954RR perfect...my exhaust job took 6 hours...i should have known better, they dont tell you anything when you go to do mods....but it looks sick!!!!...the sound is awesome...i dumped at least 10-12 lbs. of weight removing all the BS...will take some pics soon of before and after and post them...have some graphics coming in (REPSOL)...BTW- its not fun breaking a new bike in, especially with all this HP... :chomp:

Not to underestimate you here, but did you check the fuse?

Wiring lights in is easy, not really something you can screw up.

Dunno how you did the wiring, but I hope it's not permanet yet. Best thing to do would be to hook up all the stock lights and do one turn signal at a time, testing to make sure everything works before moving on to the next. This way you can touch one wire to the next.

OR if you have a 12V test light...

12V test light will make your life EASY. Hook the alligator clip to the frame, turn the key on so the marker lights should be on. Touch to each wire until you find the hot one. Then turn on the signals and touch to the remaining 2 wires (should only be 3) until you find the blinker wire. The 3rd is ground. On the aftermarket lights, black should be ground and for the other two there should be marking on the package to say which is which. Even if there isn't, it's not hard to figure out by touching one to the other until you make it light and then make it blink.

thanks Crak...didnt think to use the stock signals to check it...ive done this a 100x, dont know why i failed this time around...one reason is the signals up front are two stage and should be 3...but no aftermarket 3 stage lights are made yet, apparently-this is what i was told...i think thats what screwed it up...but your testing idea is good...there was no diagram on the new aftermarket lights either...so i dont know which ones do what...i'll figure it out...just got burned out with all the other mods...aftermarket lights come with 1 solid black and 1 black & white...Hondas are all colored....green is normally ground? (stock lighting correct?)

To be honest, I don't know what color is what on the hondas without checking personally. I know my rears were blue and white, then orange and white. My front ones were blue, green, and white, I think, and the blue was orange on the other side.

What do you mean stage 2 and 3? Are you talking about the front lights are only signals and not markers as well as signals, meaning 2 wires instead of 3?

Anyway, a 12V test light is a good thing to invest in. Go to any autoparts store, it shouldn't run you more than $5. It's one of those essential tools for working on car/motorcycle electrical systems. It saves a lot of time when hooking things up (I've used it on quite a few cars when putting new radios in when there was no wiring diagram for the car availible or I didn't feel like finding it). Some die-hard techs will whip out the 12V test light and check a light socket on the car before replacing a bulb, just to make sure that it really is a bad bulb and there isn't something wrong with the wiring. 99 times out of 100 it's just a blown bulb, but on very rare occasions there's a short in a wire somewhere and they end up tearing the car apart to find it.

Crak...you are correct- im wrong...fronts are 2 stage...meaning runner's and turn indicators...rears are single stage, turn indicators only. no 3 stage on the bike...i think i know what the prob is too...the fronts are supposed to have 2 stage bulbs...i have only single stage in there....the rear signals i have are perfect- but they wont work unless the fronts are corrected...shit!!!!!!!!!!!
the front lights had 3 wires...grn to metal housing as ground...blu and orange went directly to light socket....thats the set up....what i did was not hook up the grn, as on the aftermarket lights, there is no metal housing to ground to....so this provides an open circuit with no ground and screws up the lights...is this right?

It needs to be grounded. One of the 3 wires from the OEM wiring should be your ground. Without it, the lights will not turn on at all.

Just use the ground wire. If there isn't a ground wire for the OEM lights and they were hooked into the chassis, you'll have to ground them to the chassis somehow. Then it should all be fine.

Sure rub it in. :chomp:

Sounds like you're going to be having some fun this summer. Get that monster on the track and let me know how you like it. :)

They do make 2-stage aftermarkets. I have them on my honda. The light wiring on mine was pretty fuked up too. Everything seemed ass-backwards. If you do get the 2-stage, make sure you wire them right. The indicators run at a higher intensity than the running lights and if you wire it wrong, you running lights will be at the higher intensity and melt your light housings. I know this from experience. You shouldn't have to do anything with the running light lead wire though. If you tape if off and just let it hang there, you should be fine. I bought the single stage by accident once and had no problems wiring them up and I didn't do anything with the running light lead. I have a 2001 honda, so the wiring should be pretty much the same on yours.

Yes, it will be the "hot" wire with the key turned on.

Are you using a 12V test light?
