Study Finds Depression Intensifies from One Generation to Next

Im doomed
If I hadn't made me, I would've been made somehow.
If I hadn't assembled myself, I'dve fallen apart by now.
If I hadn't made me, I'd be more inclined to bow.
Powers that be would have swallowed me up,
but that's more than I can allow.
If you let them make you, they'll make you paper-mache.
At a distance you're strong, until the wind comes
then you crumble and blow away.
If you let them fuck you, there will be no foreplay.
But rest assured, they'll screw you complete til' your ass is blue and grey.
You should make amends with you.
If only for better health.
But if you really want to live,
why not try and Make Yourself?

I guess it has something to do with each generation being more productive than its predecessor. The stress and pressure to accomplish that must intenisfy the depression that comes with the individual not thinking (s)he made the cut.

Please elaborate. I'm in need of a good conversation today. My brain is going into a lull.

In that case then progress is being slow. Peace will elude us until the end of time. Education is taking second to pro sports. Family is just publicizing its dysfunctional state. When my parents got divorced it wasn't talked about much. Now a days throw a rock in any direction and you're bound to find several divorcees.

Just Shows To Go YA.

Things Should Change.

Its Up To Us.

Actually that's interesting, could it be the depression of the parents projected onto the children...Cuz my siblings and I are pretty much perma-pissed, that's our normal/set point...anyway the article may have mentioned projection/displacement but I didn't read it. A lot of people shouldn't have kids, my parents being such an example.

I agree if its nature vs nurture in depression, its more likely that cognitive (mental processes that we use to evaluate situations) pathways are learned from the depressed parents like poor outlook, goal orientation, reactions to normal events we face, poor coping skills, excess alcohol use etc... SO I think that the edge would go to nurture, but nature cant be ruled out with genetics b/c likeminded people are attracted to each its much more likely that two depression prone individuals would hook up than as a depressed person hooking up with an optimist. So perhaps the fact that two individuals also have chemical proclivity towards depression and may make it more likely the offsprings would have the genetic predisposition towards depression or does the study say that the # of offspring is affected like 3 out of 5 of the children are likely to have depression as opposed to 1 out of 5 of the siblings of the previous generation, I havent read the study so I dont know what they are concluding. I actually studied psychology as an undergrad and was a research asst. in studies looking at "cognitive markers to depression". So Im biased simply by my nurture in college towards nurture, but there are several accepted schools of thought in the psychology philosophy like Gestalt and Behaviorism (Skinner) etc... so basically most would accept that a blend of all disciplines is the answer to this issue. When a person is depressed a chemical imbalance occurs in the brain, it was always interesting to me how thought patterns affect the actual chemicals in the brain, but we Know that is the case. And brain scans show certain sections of the brain are activated when one is exposed to different stimuli such as fear, excitement, loneliness etc... and obviously the neurochemicals are affected by this. WHen one section of the brain lights with activity more chemicals are released, more energy is used and so on. But it doesnt surprise me that the next generation is affected more, most likely combo of nature and nurture as is almost always the case. :xeye: :baby2: :baby2:

No way, it's far more fun to let it fester...

Good friends can help depression. And a sloppy blow job works wonders too.

Are you that friend who gives blow jobs to help your friends in depressing times?

Nope. I have no friends and charge because Poppa needs a brand new bag!

I don't get depressed like I use to. I think I have pretty much overcome it. Circumstances pretty much dictate my mood.
