Strained bicep

I've read many threads about bicep tendonitis and bicep strains/tears, and none of them really describe what I'm experiencing.

2 weeks ago, I decided I was finally going to get back into lifting again after 3 years of sitting on my rear end. I still have a pair of dumbbells lying around the house, so I figured I would do a few sets of curls just to see how weak I had really gotten. I did a light workout 3 sets of 10, and my left arm went to failure before my right arm did. The next 3-5 days my left bicep was killing me. Both of my arms were sore, but I had to actively stretch and put my left arm in water to get it loose enough to lower my arm any further than 90 degrees. I had to put effort in just to get my left arm low enough to put in my pocket!

The pain went away after a few days, and everything felt fine. A little tight, but not bad. This past Monday, I started my lifting routine again. I did chest and tris without any pain, and did legs and shoulders on wed. This morning was scheduled for back and bis. This morning I knew my left bicep was still a little tight, but it didn't feel too bad. I attempted to do some lat pullbacks to start out with plates (not cable lat pulls). I only got to my first heavy set (3rd set total) before I decided I needed to stop. I decided to do a light cardio day instead.

The pain isn't extreme, it just feels like my left bicep is tight. When I massage it, it's still sore, but it never hurts just doing everyday tasks. I don't think I've torn, strained, or pulled it, because that day 2 weeks ago I never had sharp pain in my arm during my lifts, just extreme soreness the next day. I've read that with pulls or strains, you would know during your lift if you injured it or not.

Is it possible that I just still have soreness in my arm after nearly 2 weeks, and that nothing is wrong? I'll probably be able to answer that question for myself this time next week when I try to do back/bis. Maybe it just needs a few more days to heal.

Since you just got back into it, it's your body readapting to the muscle building process. Your bi's are not in any shape to tax them too much right off the bat. Start off doing light weight for atleast a month gradually increasing the weight. And give it time, sometimes after not lifting for years it takes weeks or longer to start feeling better, but it will. Don't worry, your fine.
