I'm curious if anyone has actual experience with using costicosteroids and managed to stop catabolism. We know these drugs are catabolic in nature but I have my own theories on how to stop this. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis(mild case) last year and had a couple of short stints with prednisone. Very nasty drug and one I don't like to use unless absolutely needbe, however there are times when there is no choice. I can't even fathom losing a single ounce of my hard earned muscle for no other reason than taking this drug so I'm trying to find any way whatsoever I can stop the catabolism.
My basic theory is to take something like low dose Oxandrolone while taking the prednisone since the Ox is one of, if not the best anti-catabolic drug out there. My only concern is if there are any drug interactions between these drugs that may cause a concern. Assuming the Ox will stop the catabolism, will it work against the prednisone in the tissue that it's attempting to stop the inflammation in?
Also would it be possible through simple diet and exercise to stop this type of catabolism? Not working out in general is catabolic to muscle tissue over time so one would have to work out to have a chance at keeping his muscle while taking catabolic drugs. However how would diet come into play? Would it be possible to diet while taking the prednisone or since dieting is catabolic would this be like throwing gas into the catabolism fire? If so would eating maintenance calories be the answer? I'm afraid to eat over maintenance as we know that will cause weight gain, and if prednisone truly causes a negative nitrogen balance then that weight could only be in the worst form. Fat.
Just curious if others have ran into this problem before and successfully defeated it. I have no doubt that high levels of AS would stop the catabolism but I'd like to do it as mildly as possible. Since the use of prednisone can crop up suddenly you wouldn't want to have to start an impromptu heavy cycle, but 10mg of Ox out of the blue wouldn't be as bad. Or if one could do it through diet alone then that would be a good choice as well.
