still looking for crystal reports... anyone have it?

I do Business Intelligence reporting as a job, but I steer clear of Crystal.

It's a data base report writer basically that sucks ass.

It would be hard to find since

1) It sucks and developers rarely use it unless forced to.
2) It cost alot.
3) It sucks..well that is no. 1 but it still sucks so much it deserves to be mentioned 2x.

Wait a minute... why does it suck so much?

What else is out there that is easy to use? What would you recommend for doing database reporting?

I use Cognos BI, I'd also reccomend Business Objects.

The user interfaces on it are not intuitive.
The fuctional controls for going from a - z usally require b - y too. Where as something like Buis. Obj. as lestate recommends is easier to use and does a lot of the mundane stuff for you.

Where do I get Business Objects?

Does it run with both Oracle and SQL Server?

it runs with both.

you can get a trial version from them.

Its not quite so simple as just plug and play though.. but its not too tough.

You gotta first create a meta data layer they call a "universe" and you build reports from there.

What is that?

Ok, suppose a business already has their databases and such created.... I assume you install the program, go through the steps of creating the universe (how hard is that?) and then you can proceed to using it. Or not?

Also, how easy is it to use and are there tutorials on it?
