In the infantry it's just a pink elephant type topic (everyone knows it exists but no one wants to talk about it...). Why on earth would senior leadership NOT want guys to run faster, run further, and be stronger. Reasonable and responsible use makes everyone in the company look better. I personally stopped a cycle before going to Iraq for two reasons. I had no idea what my diet was going to be like and it was in all honesty the least of my concerns, and second, I anticipated (and was not disappointed in the least) that Iraq was a nasty cesspool. I can handle a sore injection but an abscess in a place dedicated to combat trauma? Not really fair to the guys that did get shot! The place was a dump and its hard enough trying to keep from getting sick (I managed to get a nasty case of the stomach flu over there and I’ve always thought I had good personal hygiene). It's definitely a tricky subject...
The company that we relieved had a few guys that were actually buying juice from a local Iraqi guy there on base, they had absolutely no idea what it was but "Haji" told them it was juice. Screw that shit, talk about cutting your own throat!
