Sterilizing rubber stoppers

Just sterolize w rubbing alcohal.

Too much crap in the chemiclave, and the "chemi"claves take 20 min to cycle wonder how the "auto" does it in 15 min?

The cycle itself actually takes more than 15 minutes...more like 20 or 25, but it is set for 15 minutes, meaning 15 minutes at full temperature and pressure, but then it takes a bit of time for the pressure and temperature to come down.
It is wrapped in foil so that the only thing contacting it is sterile steam (and foil of course)...then when you take it out, you can handle it without contaminating it, and unwrap it when you need to use it. Wrapping in foil, (or covering the lids with foil when autoclaving bottles) is pretty standard practice in a lab.
Anyways, not sure what a chemiclave is, I assume it is a brand of autocalve?

Sterilizing with alcohol would work too, make sure to use 70% alcohol (isopropanol or ethanol, both are fine), and not stronger or weaker....this is important, 70% works much better than 90% or 99%. Also make sure to let it dry completely before using it.
I tend to batch autoclave things, and then they are ready when I need to use them, but if I just need one or two, or if I don't have one handy and I don't want to fire up the autoclave, I will use the alcohol method.

I just meant ur autoclave was faster than my chemiclave. Thats all.

Is there a reason the 70% is better? Also isnt ethanol 96%?

Ethanol you can get in a variety of concentrations. 70% is more effective at killing bacteria. higher concentrations denature the proteins in the bacterial cell wall too quickly, and are unable to penetrate into the cell to truly kill it.

Now that is very interesting.
