Starting a business in the US

Is it possible for foreigners to start a business in the US ?

I'm talking about registering a sole proprietorship or a limited liability company or any other structures.

The information I am looking for is : can I, as a European, start a business and hire people in the US ?

Sure you can but you will have to have a special VISA or some type of legalized status in the good old USA. So basically, if you have a SS # with INS authorization for work then you are good to go.

I dont think it's even necessary. I asked the question to Matt and sounds pretty easy to do.

You will need to bring in a minimum of about $250,000-$500,000 into the country and invest it and you will automatically become a permanent (investing) resident. Of course you will be screened first.

Hmm, i am under the impression that illegal immigrants can't do that. You have to have some status that allows you to work and/or reside in the USA. I am not talking about a green card but a work permit MUST be issued. I could be worng but i had one so i speak from experience.

I know by investing $500,000 I can get a work permit. But this is not how I am going to do, because I don't have that money. I am more like an entrepreneur who has a smart idea to start a smart business.

I'm going to do a lot of research to find all the options available. I just wanted to see if someone had first hand knowledge about this.

I've found that I might ask a L1 visa, but I'm not sure. Maybe I should go with a partnership with an american.

Yes partnering with an American Citizen and opening a company will give you the option of then being sponsored by the said company for some kind of pernmanent status. My parents did this.
