I don't think color is the reason. Maryland put a black person to death not to long ago, no one was out here marching for him. California has another execution scheduled for January, I'm willing to bet no one marches/protests for this person.
Just a bunch of hypocrites (Snoop Dogg, in particular) trying to jump on the latest cause.

Well, of course, his rehabilitation gained him fame. Execution protests happen all the time. There were people protesting at Tim McVeigh's execution. If you had a white, mexican, Nobel Peace Prize nominee (nominated while in prison) on death row, it would gain attention.
Keep in mind also: A) The State of the Execution (TX, VA, OH, and other states would not have given a damn); B) Hollywood Actor turned Governor having the option to grant clemency, etc.
If Scott Peterson was going to get put to death this week, he would get the same amount of publicity (if not more). Will stars attend his funeral? Likely not. But, the lovely State of CA will give him 20 years to sit in prison, write some books, a chance to get nominated for something, etc. So, he may get more.

I could understand the fuss if someone honestly thinks this guy was innocent. I would protest too if I thought the government was going kill an innocent person. However, this Tookie guy seemed guilty as hell.
I still don't believe in capital punishment but I just don't feel any sympathy for Tookie, the scumbag founder of the Crips.
