what model from 68-70 era is the fastest? is it the shelby gt 500, the mach 1, or the boss 429?

I don't know which is fastest but for around 100k you can pick up one of the GT500E's that Shelby came out with after the movie Gone in 60 seconds.

It depends on what you mean by fastest... in a quarter mile?... top speed?....stock/modified?

stock a solid bet would be a boss302... I had that engine setup in a 68fastback... stock 1969 boss 302's could blow away a boss 429 in a 1/4 mile... what happend after that was another story...

Personally, I like the 69 boss 302, or the 69 boss 429 both bad ass cars, but completely different. I know the 68 428 was something to be respected, but I do not know how it would compare to the 429s of 69 and 70....
