speculation question on r-ALA and glycogen loading pre-contest

So what do all the brains think about the use of r-ALA to assist with glycogen loading during the last couple of days pre-contest?

Any benefits? Has anyone tried this yet?

W6

I have done it for 3 competitions. It's a great supplement for getting good glycogen supercompensation with minimal fluid retention. My last 2 competitions I was trying to 'make weight' so didn't begin my carb-up until Friday morning after the weigh in. I shovelled a lot of low GI carbs in all day Friday with around 10g of (r,s-)ALA throughout the day. I dropped carbs from late Friday night. Muscles filled really quickly, really full, and I was nice and dry by prejudging next day. I have had all my clients use it for this with equally good results. My feeling is, above it's ability to get the carbs in, is it may assist with dehydration as well???

I was wondering the same. I have noticed how much better I look the next morning after a carb up day using the r-ala. Also noticed how much I pee through the nite. Like being in Ketois. I am really liking the r-ala over the racemic. strength gains alone are worth it.

Major note here-a real lack of cravings.-Valerie

That's so weird, W6! I was just thinking about this last night, and intended to post exactly the same question here this morning. I've noticed how much drier I am after refeeds with 2-3g rs-ALA, so was wondering what r-ALA could do, since it's supposed to be able to increase glycogen stores by 40%.

So then the question is, by how much would one increase the carb load over one's usual carb load????
