i saw him on a 60 minutes interview recently. my general impression is that he comes off as being an all-around good guy. the kind of dude who was raised right, if you know what i mean. he also seemed...confident. for example, he said that he always expects to win, and to get a hit when he steps to the plate. but, he said that he knows (obviously) that this doesn't always happen.

you may consider him cocky for that, and he probably is. but he's a very successful player, and he's worked hard. according to that segment, he used to suck once upon a time. even if he is cocky, or downright arrogant, at times, that isn't the worst thing. a lot of really good players will tend towards that kind of attitude. if it keeps them from being distracted by thoughts of fucking up, i think that's key.

i have never seen anything indicating that he's an arrogant prick that doesn't respect others. perhaps i'm missing something?

I absolutely detest the "idea" of the Yankees. However, I do respect (most of) them. There are some individuals that do not deserve to wear the pinstripe (Sheff, A-rod). They make great rivals. You will never hear the phrase "Jeter being Jeter" because if anyone slouched on that team they would be benched by Torre and I think that demands respect. Whereas, we have my beloved Red Sox who seem to show up to games to get their faces on TV first, and win second.

I was very happy for Torre after the game. The man had gone through a lot this season, with his status for next year being questioned. You could tell, even before he gave his post-game interview, that he was very emotional and truly affected by the win. Jeter, Posada, Martinez, Rivera, etc would do anything for that man. You can't say the same for the Red Sox.

However, I hope we meet again this postseason and we rape you on the field on our way to winning our second straight world series, be-otches!!
