i associate it with white supremacy and dukes of hazzard, so it scares me.

i recall hearing that it was on the capital building in a southern state and they removed it and there was a ruckus...

what gives?

i'm assuming it has something to do with the civil war..

I've always seen it as a symbol of the south, and not anything relating to race or racism. Us southern boys are proud of our heritage.

it was the flag of the confederacy during the civil war. many today associate it with like you said white supremecy and racism. i for one think that's bollox. it's a symbol of my heritage. i'm proud to display it as i am proud to display Old Glory. to call the stars and bars a flag of racism and slavery is like saying the malcom x attire kids used to wear was holy and pure.

it's as much a part of souther culture and history as is old glory. you can learn more about it by going to google and doing a search for it. try history of the confederate flag.

The confederate flag is a symbol of the unity and determination of the "old south" to maintain its way of life, although i believe that slavery is wrong, i'm still proud of my southern heritage. The state that flew the rebel flag was south carolina. And..most white supremacists use a flag with a swastika on it to represent their beliefs, any white supremacist that uses the rebel flag to show they are a supremacist isn't only a bigot, but they are real stupid too, cause that isn't what the flag is all about.

The flag stands for a struggle that pioneers of this country endured. It has nothing to do with race.... nothing.

you guys should be pissed at the supremacists then... they had me associating it with hate.

I've always associated it with the Confederation in the south... which was fighting to protect slavery... what it MEANS and what people interpret it are two entirely different things..

The Swasstica (sp?) of Nazi Germany is actually a symbol of freedom from Egypt (correct me if I'm wrong)... but no one gets a tattoo of it thinking about that... it stands for the Nazi train of thought no matter what the symbol is intended to be.

Swaztika...

It was also used by American Indians for a long time. They used what was called a Sun Wheel. It is a bit diffrent looking.

The Nazis had many other symbols. For each division there was a diffrent symbol.

Don´t confuse the symbol with the thing symbolized.

Incidentally, our bald eagle has clasped in its talon a grouping of arrows bound tightly together symbolizing strength in unity. Moussolini used this as his primary fascist symbol.

You have some intriguing legal posts and the like on this board. Did you attend law school?
Your posts related to said topics reminds me of how silly the law is ultimately; just words stacked on top of more words.:)

all the best

the flag in question is a Confederate "Battle" flag. It simply was a standard that was carried into battle by the soldiers.

The true Confederate Flag was very similiar to the US at that time. with stars, stripes and being red, white, and blue. Do a search on it, you will be surprised.

Afterwards, as a symbol of courage , many southern states incorporated it as an honor to their sacrifice.

I am, but this is not a new tactic. The politically correct crowd has been successful at using the Confederate flag as a symbol to rally those who would deny or distort American heritage in order to promote multi-culturalism.

Jesse Jackson and others have used it as an excuse to drum up racial division and to get mo money into the Rainbow Coalition coffers and scare liberals and moderates into voting democratic.

The fact that a grad student from Canada has the impression that you do shows that their distortion campaign has been successful. I recommend that if you have time from your studies (I'm sure you are very busy) you read up on the civil war and make your own impression. It is a fascinating and pivotal part of US History.

Smalls--

It is nothing but a sign of white supremacy. As I mentioned in a thread I started weeks ago, the Rebel flag (flag of slavery) is quickly becoming defunct all across the South. For example, Georgia has minimized it into only a small portion into its current flag. The NAACP, a prominent interest group, has successfully reminded us all that under the Confederate flag, Southern men fought for the right to keep fellow men bondage---the right to use African-Americans for their own ends----as mere second-class citizens.

You see, Smalls, supporters of the Flag of Slavery will tell you that it represents states rights, or that it represents history. LOL. But, the vast majority of historians as well as Americans know that its comparable to the swastika in that it it inflames a substantial portion of our population because under its auspices supremacy was fought for------and DEFEATED.

Flag of Slavery=Flag of Dark Days Gone By.
Ryan.

smalls, yes it does piss me off that white supremesists use it as their tool. i also agree with ttlpkg on the fact that liberals lead by JJ have used it as a tool as well. personally that makes both parties just as bad. like i said, the confederate flag is not one of racism or slavery, it's just used that way by those who are either too blind to see we are all equall or those who have to yet destroy another piece of american history to fit into a new politically correct agenda. both parties can take a walk somewhere. i've said it once and i'll say it again, it's as much a part of american history as old glory. i'll fly both flags with pride. am i racist? far from it.

ryan, you seem to forget, as i'm sure ttlpkg will agree with me on this one, you bash the flag and those who support it yet you endorse a coalition that stands for not equal rights but a complete opposite of white supremecy. both accounts are wrong. we are all equall.

From a quick search on Yahoo under Confederate Flags:

As Ryan said we discussed this a few weeks ago. I posted this comment and excerpt from a Yahoo search then:

" After several incidents of battlefield confusion at Manassas, the staffs of Generals Joseph Johnston and Pierre Beauregard submitted designs for a distinctive banner to fly over the Confederate Army in Northern Virginia to set it distinctly apart from the U.S. Stars and Stripes. The design submitted by General Beauregard's staff was selected as the official banner, due mainly to its simpler design. Conceived on the field of battle for the noblest of reasons, to save the lives of their comrades, the Confederate Battle Flag flew proudly over every battlefield for the next four years, until being furled finally at Appomatox in April 1865."

Ryan, the Confederate flag only flew for 4 years. Many, many, many more americans were enslaved under the Stars and Stripes than under the Stars and Bars. (From the beginning of the US up to 1861!)

Why aren't you calling for a ban of Old Glory???

maybe canada needs a new flag. .

when you said you guys, whom were you refering to? america or the confederate flag? i would'nt want a maple leaf anyway.

why does canada need a new flag...> i meant scrap both and get a new one...anyway, i think the humour was lost on you.

a dollar sign? yeah... the US is the land of capitalism, that's fo sho. let's work with this!

:)

Yes Smalls.. please disregard history. It was very evil and not worth knowing about. Trust me on this.. don't look into it for yourself. Just keep believing what I tell you. You see the people on TV who like the flag are in the KKK.. so that means everyone who likes it hangs black people. Trust me.. I voted for Clinton.. I like small boys. I am alot better than everyone else. Don't bother studying anything just listen to what I say.

FUCK YOU!!!

do you really think maple syrup is that good smalls? :) yall might as well just adopt old glory and call yourselves the 51st state. :) lol.

i just don't appreciate people crapping all over the confederate flag. it's part of my heritage. i don't crap on other's heritage so why should mine be done that way?

The confederate flag should be judged on its meaning by those who fly it, not by those who view it. Our US Flag stands for Unity and Freedom, but to others it is seen as a symbol of infidelity. We still fly our flag, the southern boys should be allowed to fly their flag.....Under the U.S. Flag of course....

To me, the rainbow is a symbol of peace and hope. It pisses me off that Reverend Jackson uses it to fund his illegitimate mistresses and steal charity money. But what can you do?

smalls, don't be dissin the flag now. thems fightin words.

now come here and show me some of that north of the boarder lovin. :p

Smalls, their efforts to brainwash you into believing that the confederate flag (flag of slavery) is legitimate, isn't working is it?

lol, ryan you never cease to amaze me. noone is trying to brainwash anyone. btw, you never commented on something i mentioned earlier. you bash the confed flag yet you endose an organization who's underlying goal is opposite of racial equality. you knwo who i'm talking about. racism is wrong even in reverse.

you can call the flag every name in the book but like ttlpkg said, the stars and stripes have had more people enslaved under it than the sothern cross. and it pisses me off people use the confederate flag as a tool for racism, i'm speaking of the white supremecists and those who clain it as a flag of slavery and racism, liberals. it's a piece of southern heritage. would you be happier if all rebel flags were burned and banned? i'd be happy if all malcom x and fubu items were burned and banned but guess what, they won't be cause one one simple word. freedom.

I'm from the north but i live in Alabama. And it gets tiring seeing the fucking rednecks run around in their jacked up big wheels trucks. with glass pack mufflers and a dukes a Hazzard horn and screaming, "YEEEEEE HAAAAAAWWWW!!!!!!!!!" They're fucking retards. But what do you expect its alabama. You'll never see dumber shit than what some of these damn rednecks pull down here. ITS PRETT AMUSING! LOL My neighbor dug a fucking HUGE ditch under the basment coming up through it thinking that since caves are 65 cegrees all yr round. Then the air from the ground below his basment will keep the whole house 65 degrees all yr long. LOL I'm dead serious about this! I can walk down the dirt road and see a viper parked right beside the guys nice double wide trailor he owns too. :lmao:

big red, whatever makes them happy.

if you don't like alabama just leave. not everyone here is redneck. it's like calling all yankess fude pricks. not all are. my first reaction is to attack but i'm civil unlike most of the rednecks you encounter. alabama is home. your neighbor does sound a bit ignorant though, lol, a ditch under his house. i hope it does'nt flood there.

well, i think regardless of its origin it's got bad connotations coming out the yin yang...

well like it or not, it will live on as a part of american history and souther culture til this earth passes away.

smalls fear not, not all of us who support the flag do so in a negative light.

btw smalls, when are we gonna have play time. :p
