Some of the grocery store workers in SoCal are on strike now. From what I understand they're being asked to pay an extra $5-15/week for health benefits. I've never been a big union supporter (even when I worked for UPS) but I gotta admit that sounds pretty reasonable to me.
I have no benefits now because the plan the company offers is so expensive. Most of my coworkers either self-insure or go without like I do.
Unions always tell people the strike won't last because the company will give in. If it goes on for 2-3 months they're looking at losing $4,000-6,000 just to save $500-750. I understand the resistance to giving up something you feel you're entitled to, but it seems pretty stupid to me considering their benefits are better than the majority of Americans .
What do you guys think?
