Monday my wife decides we need to look for a new house. We just finished renovating our condo, which took 2 years, but now apparently is the best time EVER to look at new houses. Nevermind the fact that we are literally in the middle of refinancing our condo( 5 years arm at 4.5%) and also right in the middle of purchasinfg the condo next to us as an investment.
We find a house that fits out criteria: 1800+ sq ft, on the water(a lake in this case) 3 BR 3 Ba, and a 2 car garage. Archtecturally it is what we want- mid century modern. Here is where the fun starts. It needs to be COMPLETELY renovated. The roof seems OK, and the AC is OK, but everything else has to go. I am talking a minimum of $70K. The kitchen is useless, there are 2 interior walls that I will have to remove as they break the space up too much. Now for the joy of purchasiung said house and spending the next 2 years renovating it, I will have to spend $290K. Then add the $70K in renovations, and we are at $360K for a 1816 sq ft house, on a lot that is 1/4 acre.
I am beginning to think I need to move out of Tampa. Houses here are rediculous!
