anyone online now here who knows anything about snowboarding, i am in desperate need of some equipment advice. pm please!! thanks in advance

Up here its pretty much mandatory that you learn some kind of winter sport, even if you hate it with a passion and want brutally torture anybody who crosses your path with a happy demeanor in the winter.

So I actually took on snowboarding my last year of high school, and since i was in a small private school made the team, only to go compete (my third time ever on a hill) - in a nutshell I ended up tripping over the second or third plastic pole and getting squared in the nuts over 15 times while sliding down the icy slope on my stomach, infront of the entire set of region schools. On a happier note though, I did actually win a un-official speed decent record by failing to carve and just close my eyes while descending a triple black diamond on my second attempt.

Well that is the summery of my snowboarding knowledge, take from it what you will.

Riiiiiggghht. Skiing is better. Whatever.

What do you need to know about snowboarding? I worked at a snowboard shop for a couple years. Ask away.

was looking for brands that make clicker style boots and bindings and if most clicker style boots/bindings are compatible?

ahhh, couldnt help you there...kronk and i do not wear or ride clickers...

however, i have been riding burton for 15 years..hehe....check burton.com out and see what they have....

have fun and shread it up!

By clicker do you mean step in?

If so go with soft boot, step ins are horrible and I dont trust them after I rode a pair and the bindings turned while I was going down the hill

wow...that would suck! i thought that is what he was talking about as well....another thing to think about is the snow....if you ever get stuck in deep deep powder....its difficult to get the packed snow and ice out of your boots to click back into your bindings....we had a friend that got stuck that way for a while...i agree that soft boot is the only way to go......

snowboarding is for the most part for kids, for the most part so don't rip my head off. I preffer skiing, it's much faster and agile of a sport though both are fine and fun as hell.

Whatever winter sport you choose buy good gear and enjoy.

I work in a board/bike shop and I can tell you, you most likely will not have as much fun with SIS (step in) bindings. You can't feel the board as well and don't have as much control. The only plus side is you'll get a few more runs in.

As far as brands go, Rossignol, Switch, K2, and Burton are the only ones I can think of that make them. As far as I know none of them are interchangable with one another.

Any questions P.M. me.

snowboarding > skiing

After years of busting my ass, i think i'm starting to get it. :D

Well if it took you years to get it you are hardly a good source of accurate and reliable info. There is no comparison in the sport when it comes to performance, with skis you get better stability more then double edge hold and speed. Try to catch a good skier on a double black trail with ice and moguls. Good luck.

To be fair, snowboaring is easier on the body and easier to do for tricks and landing jumps, as it is more intuitive, especially when making a landing. Both are cool and raw a distinctive crowd. Too bad for the skiers that we still have a lot of old still and serious older people skiing making us look "Unexciting"

I agree, step ins suck!

If you like skiing though, try poleless skiing on the shorter skis. Mind you, I only recommend this if you are an advanced skier and your heart can take it. If not, do not even consider it.

I agree,I tried this 4 years ago with some buddies who had been skiing since they were 5 or 6,and It was only my second yr and I twisted my knee pretty good

Now I take boarding over skiing any day,I feel safer and more stable

i agree, skiing is amazing, but its the old sucky people that make it look boring. No snowboard tricks can compare to properly executed skiing tricks. I cant stand it when i go into board parks with my 1080s and people think im a pussy and try to show me up by doign a fuckin GRAB. WOW! you can put your hand down and touch the 5 foot board attached to your feet!!! So i'll be a prick and do an iron cross or heli in their face. I'm yet to be shot down after that

i find too many people snowboard because its trendy. 90% percent of the kids learning snowsports these days are learning to board, mostly because their friends do. Ive been around long enough to witness people converting to snowboarding because it was "cool" and new. I own a snowboard as well and am fairly decent at it, but when i go to the mountains to ski, i never ever bring it because i wouldnt want to waste time on it that i could have been skiing.

Preach on brother, preach on!!!

Nothing like it when you hit close to 70mph down a steep slope. What a rush.:D

Yo man.. i'm an avid boarder and I can tell you.. don't go with clickers.. they are classic newbie bindings.. cool and simple at first, but limiting in the long run.
Here are the pros:
Easy to get in and out

Here are the cons
Heavy ass boots
the wear out faster
less board control
Less freedom with boot choice (less good fitting boots)

If you WERE to get them.. I'd only go with one type.. the Switch. Vans makes boots for them as do other companies.. you can get switch bindings with a backing to give you more board control but they are expensive.. you may as well just get conventional.

12 year veteran here.
and im 16 years old :D

the alps are the shit.

I bet the ROckys are cool too but it could never have that alp culture
