Sleeping, but not getting rest

I fall asleep OK, I get about 7 hours a night, I sleep through the night waking up seldom - But I keep having these darn funky dreams!!! They are either scary nightmares or just strange/freaky dreams. When I wake up, I feel as if I haven't rested (even though I was asleep). Used to be that I never dreamt at all (or didn't remember it).

There have been no changes to my diet, none to my training except to teach aerobics less & do a little less cardio, no change in my sleeping environment, or the time I sleep, not having more caffine (2 cups green tea a day usually), no different medication (just the pill), not doing anything different before I fall asleep (watch TV or read a book).

Used to be that if I had carbs close to bed time - whether refined carbs or healthy carbs, I would have dreams like this. But now I'm being carful not to have carbs anywhere near bedtime & it's still happening. :(

What is the deal??!!! Help - I need to feel rested!!!!

Pop 3 mg Melatonin and a glass of milk 30 minutes b-4 bed.

:worried: I don't know much about melatonin (I do know it is in our brains naturally & helps us relax & sleep, right?) so I'm going to have to read up before I pop anything else. Can I just get it at my local supplement store?

Will I have to worry about it knocking me out too much so that I have even MORE trouble getting up in the morning?

Sleeping isn't a problem at all - it's just those darn dreams! :( Thanks.

when I get shitty dreams, which is pretty often, I just think about them after I wake up (the second I wake up).. think about what went on that day, and just breath deep... then if it was really disturbing, I turn on my light and write them down.... that usually does the trick, and I sleep good for the rest of the night...

before bed, i like to write down just stupid shit.. I plan out my next day.. I write down all the goals I have to get accomplished and how I am going to get them done.... when I can go to sleep with a clear head, knowing what I am going to eat for each meal, knowing where and how I am going to do all my training/work/school, then I don't usually have those dreams... try picking up a book or a notebook, and just clear your head for twenty minutes before bed.

I read up on apnea, but I don't seem to have those other symptoms. My BP is low & I don't snore often - I do sometimes, but I don't think I have been lately (my boyfriend would have told me).

I often don't remember the dreams in detail... they start to fade away immediately but I feel that they were disturbing... I know it sounds strange.

I have been avoiding getting my period by starting up a new pack of pills instead of taking the inert ones for 2 cycles now... I wonder if that's to blame.

Last night was even worse. & I'm dizzy this morning on top of everything else.
