Does it matter what size filter you use for oil based gear?

Millipore 33 MM or a Whatman 25 MM?

It depends on how much gear you're going to be filtering. I think what you may be wanting to ask is what pore size fliter is good for oils (usually they sell either .20u or .45u... the .45u is good for oils, as a .20u filter would take a loooong time to get your gear through).

What you mentioned was the width of the filter itself... I think that a 25mm is supposed to be good for about 100ml of gear and a 33mm should be good for 200ml.

Ok cool, its my first time filtering. I have some rubber pieces in a vial from last cycle that I want to filter out for the next.

Only pore size they have is .20u so I guess it may take me a while.

Thanks

Yeah, I just filtered some oil through a .45u filter and it took a while, so a .20 should test you patience and your hand strength! :twirl:

Dont waste your time with a .45 trust me, I've seen rubber pieces go right through the filter and into the gear.

YES. This just happened to me. There is (1) definite piece of rubber in my vial "after" I filtered 60 ml of test. NOw, my plan is to check before every pin and when I grab it (see it in syringe) i will either filter it into a spare vial or waste a CC completely!

I just stuck pin in vial and moved vial around until I was able to suck up the rubber, I removed every piece like this. lost about 1/2 a cc though.

What gauge pins are you using?

many do just fine with the 45 micron.
anything finer it will take along time to pass any oil through
