Simple question...

How do we 'take back' and rescue the chat board from the hardcore eliment of disruptive idiots who appear to be prevailing over the last few weeks.
I know which board this question should be posted on but I can't access that board !, so I'll put it out here.
If the chat board were to come up to the standard of this and all the other boards on elitefitness, while remaining fun and entertaining to use we'd really have something boast about.
Instead as it stands it must look like a monkeys tea party to an outsider looking in !.

Good question. I haven't been on the board long, four months or so. I started here to learn about anabolics, and did. But I found myself getting into the Training and Diet boards and learned more in that time than in all the years I've been lifting.

After a while, I decided to see what the Chat board was all about. There were a lot of interesting topics there, as well as a lot of petty bitching. And, God help me, I let myself get into it once in a while. It's like driving by a car accident; just couldn't help myself. While I still believe there are many intelligent, well-meaning folks there, the high school stuff is getting, well, embarrasing.

Again, I haven't been around real long and have no place to complain. The good outweighs the bad by far here IMO. And maybe in the same sense that you can't have a god without a devil, a heaven without a hell, all that might just be a necessary evil. Is there anything that could be done that wouldn't ultimately turn out to be more trouble than it's worth? I honestly don't know. Just my .02.

Good reply, and your last line is very true. Although your relatively new here the board is as much your's as mine so don't feel you can't voice an opinion.
I love the fun on the chat board. The Goat Slayer is my favourite there, he's brilliant. Nasty without being offensive !.
I'll join in the fun there also, but there are a disruptive hardcore element who do nothing constructive for the board.
So have the 'lunatics taken over the asylum' ?

I am SUPPOSED to be a moderator, yet I am 100% POWERLESS to do ANYTHING to stop those idiots. Worse, yet the rammifications for me even ATTEMPTING to do my job go beyond all comprehension! Suffice it to say, that I have had enough. I could care less who says what to whom, who posts what pics of whomever else REGARDLESS of how offensive or degrading it is. Those brain-damage little rat turd college children with internet access KNOW that I can't do anything (or any other moderator for that matter) so what's to stop them from doing WHATEVER THEY WANT?!...NOTHING . Ban them?! That means ZERO. They only set up a new account (or whatever it is that they do) and log in with a new handle. MANY KNOW THIS and MANY HAVE and CONTINUE TO DO THIS.

The chatboard has always been a "post at your own risk" type environment, but there were lines even then. And they were RARELY, IF EVER, CROSSED.

Now the mods are regularly spoken to in a fashion that I would NEVER speak to ANYONE and the members are just rolling around in the mud and filth....

I say, "LET EM."

It is really a shame. I certainly hope that this DOES NOT carry over to the other boards.

I think that initially, a Platinum Chat board would be great. However, over time, as more and more users log in, you'll end up with the same problem.

I agree with Bikinimom. I don't think you can maintain the integrity of a board like this that encourages a free exchange of ideas, without putting up with the yahoos. If I could get painfully patriotic here, it's kind of like America. Part of enjoying all the freedoms we have here means that we have to put up with things like pornography and the KKK. (I happen to be a big believer in pornograpy, but that's another thread.)

I think for as long as the good outweighs the bad on this board, which I believe it does by far, maybe we're better off just having one pen for our particular pigs. I believe the rest of the boards will continue to add value that way.

I know another board must represent more cost to George, but the flip side is that you couldn't just sign up for a new account if you were banned or else you would have to pay another $70, I doubt many of the retards in question have that kind of $.

Bouncer, you have asked a tough question. Unlike the other boards at Elite Fitness, (with the exception of Elite Between the Sheets), The Chat and Conversation board is where people of all different ages, backgrounds, education levels, and life experiences come together to express their opionion on a variety of topics. The other boards are more fact and information based limiting such differing opinions.

In this setting, you must remember, that the age difference between people is going to make the biggest difference. I say this because, the college and high school kids are not only developing their opinions, but also are developing a way in which it is acceptable to present them. For the college kids, they are just beginning life on their own, and are exposed 24/7 to people their own age, who also express their opionions in a similiar manner. (I say that, even though it is becoming harder to remember those days.)

Even though I am relatively a newbie to this board, I am not new to this topic. You see, I am a production manager, and part of my job is making sure that the engineers and professionals, as well as the production operators stay focused at their jobs at hand and work together to achieve success, despite their different backgrounds.

George's idea of another Chat board might possibly be a solution to this problem. I say this because I do not believe everyone is going to put forth the money for a platinum membership. And my gut feeling, is that many of those that don't fork out the money, will fall into the high school or college student group.

I guess that is my take on the situation. Have a good one!!

The chat board keeps a lot of idiots happy and from misusing the other boards. I'm certainly not stateing that everyone on the chat board is an idiot, only the ones that get into the same stupid shit over and over. I do get a few laughs from that board though. I don't like the race and religion issues that surface for no other reason than to inflame others.

No I would be against it. Are'nt we having a civilised discussion here !.
But it would be good if we had something like a 3 strike and your out rule, ie. 3 legitimate complaints (maybe by mods) against a member and their 'sin bined' for a time. Although I'm not suggesting this as a way to go because it's wide open to abuse, but I'm sure some minds here can come together and get a system where we can get the chatboard back in order without losing it's fun and entertainment value.
B'mom is one example of the abuse women are getting on that board, she's recently stated that she's had enough of the chat board !. What a lose to us all if she really does drop that board, just more ground lost to the idiots.
Almost every lady I know on the chatboard receives alot of abuse there, and while we men can laugh off a joke it's a little tougher for a lady as the abuse can be alittle more personal than that which men have thrown at them.
One mod question, one to really throw the brown stuff into the fan, Should MOD's have more power !.
I know 'absolute power corrupts absolutely' so I'm not suggesting absolute power but maybe there's alittle lacking somewhere ?.
Btw Toga22's reply here was excellent, however it's up to us the 'older, wiser, or just more mature' members who should be setting the examples for new comer's to elitefitness rather than the example their met with at the moment.

There seems to be a shift in attitude amongst the members of the chatboard. I think that all the "normal" hehehhehe members are realizing that things went too far and see that the board has lost a lot of quality people because of it.

Perhaps if the members themselves would unite and stand together against subhuman trash this wouldn't happen again.

Being a member of elite, a moderator in particular has opened so many doors, has benefitted me in ways that I could never have imagined at the onset. Now it seems that it has a become a double-edged sword... it may also be my undoing.

There was a time when it meant something to be a moderator at elite. We all held ourselves to higher standards (though we all - me especially - have made and continue to make mistakes), we had respect from the board members and from/for each other. There has been a shift in attitude now. Perhaps it is a sign of the times, a reflection of the general unrest in the world as nobody REALLY knows who the "enemy" is. Perhaps it was that a few of the choices for mods could have been different.... (Not saying that I am the cream of the crop so please nobody get your underoos in a bind here!). Perhaps it is the growing pains experienced by all businesses when they grow by leaps and bounds thus lose some of their control......or any combination or maybe I am TOTALLY OFF!!!

I don't know. I just don't know. I mean for God's sake.... I am a used-to-be fucking housefrau trying to find my way in the world for the first time.... What the FUCK do I know?

As for getting the fuckers - there is *something* we can do. The easiest ones to get are the ones that traceroute back to a college - those dumbasses are paying to go to that institution and every single college has a policy in place to cover their ass - and usually the policy is very tight (enough so that they shouldn't even be at this board let alone abusing it) - but not enforced until a problem arises. If they are at a college and you can traceroute back to that, then they are easily fucked.

Then there are the fellows on AOL - like Steel - and AOL sucks. They are a large conservative corporation hell bent on taking over the world. That said - they are VERY strict on what their users do because they don't want ANY bad press about their service being used for nefarious means. So you can report these people and allow the AOL admin to look into it and they will then lose their ISP. This is more of a deterrant than getting banned here b/c here it is easy enough to get signed back up again in 10 mins. A new ISP requires money.

Then there are the harder ones - the ones that are on dhcp driven smaller isps - those, interestingly enough, don't give you much info to track.

But with any of them - you can take advantage of one thing. These guys (and I say that b/c I haven't seen any women behaving badly - as much as some don't like that powerchick or whoever it was) are idiots.
They walk right into basic traps.
It is easy as hell to get them to give out too much information. And with said information, there are many resources to find the dipshits. I am in NO WAY advocating any sort of vigilante attack on dipshits - but I am fully willing to look up the info on the fuckers, get them to admit or brag about XYZ, and then "accidentally" have the right people happen to see that information.
I would *never* do this to anyone other than someone that has put others in a situation where their real personal life is in jeopardy - and right now I only know of a few on the board that have done that....

Guys - as a prominent poster on the Chat Board let me say that you shouldn't judge that Chat Board by looking at the lowest common element. Should I judge the Anabolic Board because of loves2 or amaf (or whatthefuckever his name is)?? NO. Just as there are some great peeps on the Anabolic Board, Fonz, Stang, Huck, SLo, and numerous others - the same is true of the Chat Board. WODIN, Havoc, Supersizeme, Captain Insano and others are good bros who actually know more about traing and nutrition than one might believe.

I had stopped using the ignore thinking I could just ignore what I did not like, yeah right that proved to be successful. But as of course it seems that for every Steel Beast there's three or four more idiots that pop up in his place like some sort of cult following. Like I said before: "Cattle and sheep."

I frequently engage in debates (mainly political) that often turn nasty. While the flaming is enjoyable, to a degree, a lot of it has gone way too far lately. I attempt to refrain from getting too personal, because after all, it is an internet chat board. Any time that personal threats are made, and the poster's intent is obvious, there should be no more chances. I don't know SB, or bikinimom, or shrelby for that matter. But I have seen personal attacks against these and other members that is totally uncalled for. Flames are part of what makes the chat board great, but there is a limit to what is acceptable.

I don't think that a platinum chat board is the answer.

I think the best course of action is establishing a strict
line, that if members go over, after say, one warning, results in a suspension of membership for a set time. When they return, if
they continue with their harassment, then a permanent ban.

The other step that would help, would be if we could eliminate
all the alter egos that people have. I don't know if that is possible, but that would help greatly.

I must admit that sometimes I get swept up in a stupid "highschool-esque" arguement from time to time, visiting the chat board. It's hard not to get in an arguement when people are so quick to make nasty remarks and unneccsary comments on others.

It's gotten out of hands and people are taking the whole freedom of speach thing way too far. I don't think that a new board would be a good idea. I think some more mods would be useful. There's a lot of mods on this board who don't seem to be very active. Maybe there needs to be a certain level of activity in order to maintain the mod status. There's not nearly enough moderation going on. Not only this, but banning should be considered serious and someone should be able to plea there case before getting kicked out.
