I like my standard of living. I have no problem waging war to ensure that it is maintained. What should we do? Sit back and let these 3rd world bums tell us what to do?

Afghanistan is less secure than it was in 2004, the dollar is weak and the occupation of Iraq is helping to create such a large deficit that many economists are saying we may not be able to grow our way out of it.
"In this March 5, 2003 broadcast, two weeks before the invasion of Iraq, Yale economist William Nordhaus was ridiculed for predicting a war with Iraq might cost as much as $750 Billion in war costs, $2 Trillion in economic costs, create $75 a barrel oil and $3 a gallon gas."

They had the right idea. They just didn't implement it properly.
As for Afghanistan being less secure, who cares? We haven't seen a major 9/11 type terrorist action occur on US soil for 8 years. That is a huge accomplishment.
As for the deficit, who cares. As long as foreign nations love selling us their goods they will continue to provide us the foreign investment we need to keep our economy running. Plus, the US would still be running a deficit without the war. Dems and Reps cannot control spending. Nothing new there.
The damn shame about this is his worst case scenarios probably need more then a 100% increase

Well I didn't say anything because that part was too obvious for comment.
The Afghanistan situation is kinda being swept under a rug. Not sure why
It's definitely in the shadow of Iraq and Iran. And I agree with you that it's a travesty.
Everyone involved from GW Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld needs to admits in some time after their dismissal what they did wrong just to clear the air
People who lost loved ones should have some closure
