Never do business with them. Bank account, credit card, nothing. You'll have nothing but grief - I have.

They all look the same to me. No matter which one. I deal with 4 of them and I'm amazed how they treat their customers...

I was going to open an account there.

I have accounts at Barcalys and Chase manhattan.

What did they do to you?

Two words - American Express. I've never had a problem that was their fault. Whenever I had a problem that wasn't their fault, they treated me better than I would have expected anyone to. AMEX = rules.

Fonz:

First started back in mid 2001. They had a special promo going where if you open a new online account with a certain initial deposit, they'll send you a free Palm Pilot VIIx 6 months later. I received mine much more than 6 months later. Excuse #1 was that they had to "verify some information." Excuse #2 was 9/11. Hello! 9/11 was 5 months prior to that, and I was 2 months overdue for my Palm. Excuse #3 was "we are out of stock." Finally when I got it, it was a mission to close the account.

Now on to the credit cards. I have a citicard that has 0% apr until 2003, so naturally I only make the minimum payment every month. Lo and behold they send me an offer for a card that has 0% apr until 2004! So of course I apply and am approved, but for a shitty limit. I call up to get a line increase, and they tell me that I have to wait 6 months before requesting one. I'm told that is standard procedure everywhere, but apparently it is not at American Express because they increased my line by several thousand on the day I activated my card (like two years ago). I mention that I've had another citicard for 6 months and why do I need to hold this new one for that long?

Apparently it doesn't matter if I've been a customer for 10 years, it's a new account so it's a new 6 months. I spoke to a manager and had them put the line request in anyway, and it was denied because I "have been making minimum payments on my other citi account."

Needless to say I'm pissed and even though I have 0% apr until 2003/4, I'm going to pay this shit off by the end of the year so I can close the 2 shittybank accounts and tell them to fuck themselves.

Like I've said before, two words: AMERICAN EXPRESS

they did me wrong too. i have a verizon student visa and earlier this year citibank took over, it was the national bank of deleware. well, my credit line was reduced by like 500. my new limit was under my current balance. well i was charged over limit fees, late fees, finance charges and such. the late fees came after i could not pay the substantial amount, it went up to like 180 bucks with the over limit fees and charges alone. i told them everytime they called that they screwed me and they always said it was my fault for not making my payments. i missed a few last year but made them up and that was with the other bank, but when the balance was sky high and i had to choose from gas for work or pay them it did'nt seem to matter. i even told them that a notice would have been helpfull but that was not even thought of. finally, one of the nicer girls who work for them offered me a match pay and i got my account caught up. my goal now is to pay it off and close it. i also want to pay off my providian card but i might keep it around just in case.

point: citibank/ citigroup leave home with out them. are'nt they under investigation for coporate crimes or something?

the credit was dropped by that much not to that much. i still have a like a 1400 dollar limit. it was still low though. :(

Citibank got caught fudging their financials. They lost Billions in Enron, Global Crossing, money lent to Argentinian banks, and other scams.

The pumped their financials to increase their share price.

They will be toast in 12 months.

And the corporate officers will be charged with money laundering and racketeering by the New York Attorney General's office.

does that mean they'll erase my debt with them and give me my full credit back untouched?

ok, big wish there. but i had to try. lol

all banks suck ass. from their non-existent return rates, to the shitty customer service, to the service charges, to the billions upon billions of dollars that they make for doing nothing!!! it's no wonder that my favorite movie scene is at the end of fight club.

i can understand the palm pilot thing but not the credit card thing. maybe your debt ratio is the reason the second card had a lower limit. and actually im surprised they let you have two different credit accounts under the same name.

american express doesnt come with limits does it???

and as far as paying them off and canceling the account, if it can continue to save you money in inerest, why cancel. just have them and the american express. i go with who ever gives me 0% and when that time period runs out i transfer to another 0% card. this is always at a no-transfer fee, so i win.

The reason I could have the two cards is because they are two different cards. I can apply for a Discover or AMEX Gold card now even though I have a platinum of both... just can't have the same card twice. Debt ratio doesn't make sense either. If you were to compare my credit line with other cards vs. the ShittyBank one, you'd notice a substantial difference. Discover and Visa trust me with more credit than I'd be able to handle, while ShittyBank won't give me enough for a debt I could pay off tomorrow if it weren't at 0% apr.

Depends on the card and your credit history.

I have been doing the same. Started in late 2001 with Discover, then switched to my Visa, then finally to ShittyBank. I'm not really saving much since keeping that money in the bank to earn interest isn't really earning shit because even though I have one of those super duper accounts that yield "high interest" I'm barely making 1%. Only bank around me offering more is Washington Mutual @ 3% but with a minimum balance of 50k. bah.

When I run out of 0% apr cards to obtain I'm going to cancel all this shit and just stay with my AMEX and my Shell Visa. All these other companies give you their low apr and credit lines and all that crap, but they couldn't tie AMEX's shoes. I'd rather have an AMEX card with a $1,000 limit and 99.99% apr than some "we wanna be cool like American Express" card.

i just remember one time a company wouldnt give me a card because i already had one with thier parent company. i thought it was odd but oh well. as far as the credit limit. i have several cards that are at substantially different limits, i guess at times some lenders limit thier overall lending which in turn correlates to lower limits for thier customers, i dont know im just guess here. one thing i have learned the hard way is to limit thier use regardless.

I understand if they set low limits to avoid getting fucked, but I'm not some punkass college kid with a minimum wage job. I'd be earning more than 75% of the fucks at my school, faculty included, if I'd drop out of that shithole. Oh well... their loss. No good card = me no use = they don't make money from the merchant fees. AMEX loves me. I use my card to rent a $2 movie. All they see are dollar signs when my billing cycle starts over.

I just want to add that AOl sucks. They took a draft from my checking account after I closed my account with them. Lowlife bastards. DO NOT TRUST AOL.

You think that's bad? My company's old web host has been billing us for the past 3 years for a $40 charge that was not supposed to take place since we terminated our account. They're threatening to take us to court - LOL.
