Sermon Of Mockery...

Do you like Testament? The Gathering is one of my all time favorite CD's. That production is virgin tight, and there is'nt a bad song on the CD.

Another band I've been listening to is "The Crown". Have you heard of them?

What about Cryptopsy?

Sermon of Mockery only listens to country music.

Fonz

All of those bands are signed to "century media" a label my girl used to work for,so I was able to meet all of them. They really don't do it for me,but I do respect their talent and perserverance.Out of all of them I like cryptopsy the best, also known as slop-topsy cause the drummer goes so fast he can't control himself.Seen them tons of times, and have loved them since uhhhhhhhh shit maybe 94'?I have super heat from gathering right here to get the ladies in the right mood:D Overall a bit too light still, but you get an A for effert my friend.

BTW grow some nutz, and hit up some Suffocation.Get the album
"Effigy of the forgotten".Really the granfathers of brutal grinding mayhem.Best and tightest around, don't let any other fools tell you differentlly.

They are a tad bit too heavy for me. I'm not saying they are bad, but not my flavor.

they are just too old school for me man.I really listen to deathmetal beacause I'm a drummer, and I want to listen to challenging drumming.Testament just does'nt do that.I liked when james made a side project called "Disincarnate" that was way heavier, look it up,it's called "Dreams of the carion kind".

I'm not talking old school Testament with Skolnick. Just their newer stuff. I'll check out your recommendation though.

Sermon, deathmetal is old school too bro, where you been? Morbid Angel, Deicide, Suffocation, Napalm Death, all peaked in
the early 90's.

I have Effigy of the Forgotten, I popped it in the player a couple
weeks ago, and honestly it bored me. It shows it's age.

Testament were bad asses in the late 80's. I still think The New
Order (I think that's the name), was a classic recording. They were one of the heaviest bands around at that time. Saw them twice on that tour, but I haven't cared for much they've done since, and their sound has gotten old somewhat.

Old School still cool enought to be in my changer now:

Possessed- Seven Churches
Slayer- Hell Awaits
Death- Leprosy (Left to Die perhaps the best speed song ever recorded IMO).
Destruction- Eternal Devastation.

Listen to anything off "The Gathering". It has Slayers old drummer plying on that album. Tight as fuck!!

Gathering is the best of their post New World Order stuff. Much
heavier, although I don't like the death metal style vocals. I thought Chuck Billy sounded better with his normal voice. But do
to his health problems, perhaps it was necessary.

I personally like his sound now. Not that I did'nt like his sound before. I do agree with you that The New World Order was a great album.

in saying old school, I meant the bands freak listed where just stepping stones in evolution of deathmetal.I know that it's all"old",But if I were to listen to metal,I'm going to listen to what intrigues me as a drummer, and nothin before the 90's and after the 90's does it for me.It's just what catches your eye at the time.Freaks time was obviouslly the 80's,mine the nineties, and nobody likes to consider themselves oldschool.Suffocation in my book was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of their time, and still to this day has not been duplicated, tastefull wise, and the tightness facter also. When I first heard them I swore the music was all made from a machine. It was too tight, laser perfection almost.Nothing comes slose to themfor tasty rythms, and tight chops.

Their first album Legacy, was actually the name of the band, and
they changed it just before release to Testament. That is a kick ass recording also. I use to be amazed at how thick and sludgy
they could sound, and still play fast. Skolnick was one of my fav
axemen back in the day.

I'm going to have to break that CD out. I have'nt listened to that one in years. Skolnick was ahead of his time in my opinion.

LMAO!! Good call S.O.M. I was definetly an 80's freak. It started with Ratt, crue, and W.A.S.P.

you are right from my time bro, Twisted Sister, Ratt, Motley's first
couple albums, WASP, Maiden, all heavy for the 83-84 era.

THEN Slayer, Venom, Exodus changed the metal world forever.

Funny, Slayer opened for WASP in '86 when I saw them. Left after
a couple songs, only went to see Slayer.

Haa, good stuff. I don't ever remember Slayer opening for WASP. Damn, that would have been a hell of a show. I'm a big Exodus fan as well. I was hooked after Toxic Waltz.

I think "Somewhere in Time" by Maiden will rank in my top 5 all time albums. I loved "Live After Death "as well.

I will give you that it was SICK sounding musically, unreal. I think
that about Cannibal Corpse too. Didn't they all originally record at
Morrisound studios, and use that same producer, shit I forget his
name, but he did all the big Death/Hardcore bands in the day. I
remember reading an article from him that Suffocation and Cannibal Corpse were by far the 2 heaviest bands he'd ever recorded. Being a bass player, I still get blown away watching/listening to Webster from Cannibal, makes me want to quit playing he's so damn good.

Just did a search, Scott Burns was the man.

It was at jim morrison's recording studio,he was the bigest name in dm engineers. But if I remember correctlly(and I can't fucking believe I don't remember for sure) it was cannibal, and deicide recording at the same time, thats why glen benton did a double track on Butchered I believe.

all about the napalm. barney ruled as a vocalist. although the lead from fear factory kind of resembled his voice. tell me me who else sounded as brutal as barney.

hahaha sorry to burst your bubble man,but barney was laughed at by all other vocalist for having the weakest, most pitiful vocal in dm,seriouslly.

I did like Barney's vocal sound, the only one who I thought sounded as menacing was the dude from Bolt Thrower, Karl
Willetts I think was his name. Their first 3 albums were crushing.

Really? I liked Barney's sound, was and still am a Napalm fan. I
thought Vincent's vocals were pretty good, didn't care much for
Benton's style, Barnes was too extreme on his. I did like Bell's
vocal sound on the orginal Fear Factory release. That Mexican dude that Dino has do the vocals for Brujeria sounds pretty cool
too.

oh shit, I forgot about that guy from bolt thrower. that guy was a true subwoofer. cannibal should have never broken up; once barnes left, I lost faith in them. I saw the new vocalist before I had even heard of the breakup, and I was disappointed bigtime.

charvelle - you are right about alex webster, he was a sick ass bassist.

brujeria was a joke band if you did'nt know.I can't remember the members, but they were all from other bands. They had like what 4 guitarists,3 bass players?
When barnes, cannibal died!It was George "corpsegrinder" who joined the team afterwards. He SUCKS!!!!!!!!! bigtime.

It is a guy from Napalm, another guy from an old school Brazilian
thrash band popular in the 90's, some other dude from a name band, and a bunch of their Mexican buddies. I don't know if I'd call it a joke. Some of their shit is heavier than even Dino's Fear Factory stuff. Who knows it may be his main venture since Fear
Factory fell apart.

brujeria. I was in high school when they came out. I think the dudes from fear factory were a part of that act. barnes too extreme? I thought so too, but I liked it. ever hear of disembowelment? now that dood is like barnes, except he sings instead of barking like barnes. is barnes still singing? if so, with whom?

The last I saw, he was with a band called "Six Feet Under", he
had Schuldiners old bass player from the Leprosy-Spiritual Healing
era, Terry Butler with him. (which I don't mind saying I'm a better player than him, and wish I lived in the Tampa area back when Chuck was putting Death together).
