Does anyone have "first hand" experience with the occupation of "Bodyguard"?

I have been looking into it, but it's hard to find an information source destination.

Any help would be much appreciated.........

What do you want to know ? What field exactly ? Private firm or LEO ? And what state ?

i'm in MA - I just want a good source for info on the topic (or someone who has first hand experience with the subject.

Thanks for the response.....

Yes....when I first came out of the Army I did some work for someone in the music industry. I doubt my experiences would be of much use to you today as this was in 1985-1986. I did have to have a carry permit and I became a PI just because it made some things easier with local LE. Having absolutely NO priors is a must and I think you have mentioned that you do. PM me if you have specific questions.

Never worked as one but had a few clients that were into this business. Sold a batch of pistols to a firm located in NY recently. Maybe I can help since I know a bit about it.

"Bodyguard" is not a commonly used term. I was called a "personal assistant". The skill set needed was quite a bit different from "door work" (which you and I have both done). They are not looking for "muscle" per se, but the ability to run interference and be a "brainy" interface if that makes any sense. At least that was my experience.
I would describe what I did as being a well dressed, articulate, imposing spokesperson for my client, who was able to be in the same room and never be noticed as being "with" the client and then at a moment's notice be glued to him.
Very hard to explain. Different than what you see with the "posse" type thing today.

Good info...........

Any suggestions on "where" to find this info?

executive protection is great if you get established. if your just ok you wont get much work in a field thats very difficult to get work in.

your goal is to avoid confrontation and plan, like medical said,if there is a confrontation you didnt do your job good enough

Nope. I was contacted by them from a reference given by a person who had been solicited to find people with my credentials who were ETS'ing from the military. My "credentials" were apparently that I had a very high IQ, was white and from a upper/middle class background, very fit, weapons/hand-to-hand proficient, no priors, etc.
For what it's worth I wouldn't recommend it as an occupation. Anyone who needs someone like that is involved with dirty people on a regular basis, plus all of the "side" benefits you would thing are involved are really not. As soon as you start to partake of them you are out of there......the entertainment industry is not a kind place to find a career.
