Seperated my AC

vindicate

New member
So Im benching 6 mos ago and feel a seperation of sorts. A strain or something. Well its not getting any better and hurts most after workout of my chest. . .

I go to the doc and he tells me its a seperated AC LEVEL 2.

I just got back ON a week ago and am not sure if I should continue with an injury.

Also what experience do you guys have with this. Can I fix it. Will it ever heal. Can I ever go heavy again?

The AC or Acromioclavicular Joint is located at the upper point where the acromion, an extension of your shoulder blade, and clavicle meet. AC injuries are classed between Level 1 to 6. If you have been diagnosed (diagnosis is extremely important) with a Level 2 AC injury then the ligament has likely been torn. It should be a little tender to the touch. Initially, treatment is usually ice packs, anti-inflammatories, immobilising the shoulder and rest. Steroid injections into the acromioclavicular joint are also an option to help with recovery, followed by light range-of-motion exercises to determine if the AC has healed sufficiently. Expect this to take 2 to 3 weeks before you can start to get back into training -- lightly.

The concern now though is that you are still experiencing soreness in the area after 6 months. This either means that you have re-injured the area or have not let the original injury heal or the injury is more severe than the original Level 2 diagnosis.

Best advice is to rest up, avoid any type of overhead exercises and consult with your physician to confirm the original diagnosis and go from there.

REST...you are going to make it worse by using it....you have to let it heal and it will take some time to get back but don't push it
