I have a recommendation concerning the Karma System.
This has nothing to do with number of hits, etc... simply, with the timing of the hits.
We all know that we have available a certain number of hits every 24 hours. My recommendation goes along the lines of how those 24 hours are calculated. Right now, the 24 hours run from the moment of the last karma hit... Meaning, it is a counter that depends exclusively on the time the user chooses to spread.
While this system seems at first sight to be the most correct solution, it leads to the karma "slipping" into the day as we are away from the site at different times of the day. The result of this is people spreading at less than comfortable hours. The only solution to reset this counter is skipping a day, whereas on the day after that, one can start at anytime one chooses.
My recommendation is simply to reset the counter on a fixed time of the day, say midgnight NYC time. What is the benefit of this: More spontaneous K hits, since I don't have to wait to be able to hit somebody. Right now, if I read something good and want to give it some green, I need to wait until my timer allows me... in the same fashion, I don't give karma late in the day because that will drag my timer into that time.
With a fixed reset time, we could all spread at any time, knowing that whatever time we choose today will not bind us tomorrow.
This would be REALLY easy to implement too, since there are no queries involved to verify last hits timing, simpliy comparing against a hard-coded number. Logician would be happy to get an easy assignment every once in a while too.
I cannot stress enough I 'm not asking for more K hits, this is just a solution to the nuissance the slipping timer has become.
Does this sound reasonable?
