Security!!!

Just wanted to share a little info, to those that don't already know, that might make your online security a little tighter. This is especially important in todays age. Law enforcement often uses online spying to collect data on suspects believed to be involved in illegal activity.

1. Use secure E-mail. Encryption is a must. Law enforcement has the power to intercept email messages in transit from A to B. The only thing preventing the world from knowing exactly what you are saying verbatim is to encrypt your emails.

2. Use a proxy server when surfing sites that could potentially be incriminating. The same goes with websites as does email: Law enforcement can intercept data transmitted from your computer to a webpage AND THEY KNOW IT IS YOU. Every computer has a unique IP address that identifies you. Law enforcement can issue warrants to your Internet Service Provider to provide the billing information for your IP address. The solution: Use an anonymous proxy server. Anonymous proxy servers hide your IP address. They do not provide anyone with your IP address and effectively hide any information about you and your reading interests. Using an anonymous proxy server doesn't give anyone the chance to find out what your IP address is to use it in their own interests. Go to www.publicproxyservers.com for a list of free proxies.

Instructions for internet explorer
A. Go to "Tools"-"Internet Options..."-"Connections"-"Lan Settings"

Oh yeah, and trust NO ONE!!!

Any encryption can be cracked. If the govt can hack multi encrypted data from other countries, they can shurely hack your little encrypted, free email account. But no one is gonna bother with hacking some no names email account unless you were doing some serious shit.

Exactly! Plus, there is a back-door to PGP, no need to 'hack' just plug in the carnivore.

Most people today use 256 bit AES encryption. AES is the Advanced Encryption Standard, which is the result of a three-year competition sponsored by the U.S. Government's National Institute of Standards (NIST). This encryption method, also known as Rijndael, has been adopted by NIST as a Federal Information Processing Standard. This is what the U.S. Gov uses as to encrypt there own data... Meaning, it's pretty secure. Here is a quote from http://csrc.nist.gov/CryptoToolkit/aes/aesfact.html

"Assuming that one could build a machine that could recover a DES key in a second (i.e., try 255 keys per second), then it would take that machine approximately 149 thousand-billion (149 trillion) years to crack a 128-bit AES key. To put that into perspective, the universe is believed to be less than 20 billion years old."
Say what you will, if you think your email account can't be hacked... think again. Believe me, if someone with the right experience and necessary technology wanted to hack your account they most certainly could.

Yeah, I edited that earlier because you are right... they could.

Let me tell you something about data:

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SECURITY! PERIOD.

If man can make it, man can break it.

except an erection, that is. those are some pretty darn impressive womanly frontal lobes there in your avatar.

regarding security, what about these coffee shops and delis that have the free wifi. How can those be used in a more secure way? Or can they? Thanks.
