Many good web sites are suffering a traffic drought as a result of this action by Google who claim that it has nothing to do with them promoting their paid listings to webmasters ahead of Google's floatation/IPO early next year.
http://www.scroogle.org/ has attempted to show how the search results should read without the commercial filters in place.
Because Google are clearly the market leader for Internet searches, they have a monopoly which requires some responsibility to their loyal users.
