Saturated vs poly-unsaturated fatty acids

Do we really need saturated oils ?

if it was possible, could we live (and grow) with only mono and poly unsaturated fatty acids?

Does saturated FA have a role in T production that poly unsaturated oils do not have ?

Red meat has some satured fats and
I´ve been eating only red meat as my protein source except the whey postworkout and let me tell ya that I´ve been cumming loads of sperm :)
That means that my test levels are high and my balls are getting bigger!
Red meat rulez! I dont know if Im wrong just by eating 1 type of protein instead of tuna, chciken, turkey etc but I LOVE red meat... In a week I will be moving t Portugal and there I eat lot of ostreich meat and partridge meat Although Im cutting I still think red meat is a good choice. I eat around 1kg of 90% lean red meat a day.

Thanx Shinobi,

Anyone else ?

Take a look at strict vegan's they don't get any saturated fat. All of the essential fatty acids (ones that must be included in our diet) are found in mono and poly unsaturated fats. Omega 3's, 6's, and 9's. Hope this helps some.

If you mean DIETARY fats, then there is no requirement for saturated intake. However your body will use mono and poly unsats to make the saturated fats that it needs for good health. Funnily enough, the only dietary fats you need are called "essentail" fatty acids! These can be turned into any other fat in the body.

Diets high in saturated fats lead to an increase in prostate size in male rats, but does not affect the androgen axis. So bigger balls, maybe, but not necessarily more free T floating around. Vegans tend to have slightly higher SHBG and therefore slightly lower free T, but this is almost certainly not due to a lack of sat fats so much as a lack of adequate total fat, total protein and possibly total calories (amongst other major lifestyle differences.....).

Sure Shinobi, flaxseed will do a body good. There isn't such a thing as too much of the EFAs, only too many total calories. So as long as you're not gaining fat then eat as much flaxseed oil (or other poly unsaturated fats) as you want.

Strict vegans don't get any cholesterol, but they get saturated fat. Vegetable and nut oils have saturated fat in them. "Tropical oils" like cocoa butter and coconut, palm and palm kernel oils are high in saturated fat.

Yes, we need saturated fats to keep healthy and they are necessary to properly utilize Essential Fatty Acids. Even if you choose not to eat them your body will make them b/c Saturated Fat is our bodies main source of fuel. This is b/c when you burn bodyfat you are burning saturated fat, when you eat excess carbs beyond your small glycogen stored, then are getting converted via de novo lipogenesis to Saturated Fat.
